Since all the old build threads have been closed, I think it'd be a good idea to revive them (and possibly sticky them) so that we can all share our builds again.

I got a WK180C in a trade and I've done some light modding to it. My goal was to make a handy and practical plinker without adding much bulk or weight to the rifle overall. Here's what I've done so far:

- Holosun 403 Red dot
- Magpul MBUS sights (mostly for weight)
- Magpul MOE pistol grip, trimmed to fit
- Magpul MLOK Rail Cover Type 2
- HEK 3D Printed brass deflector / cover
- O rings on the upper receiver lug to take out wobble.

You may have noticed that the factory handguard looks slightly different. I never liked the look of it so I took a dremel and a file and removed the lower 'lip' of the handguard to square off the profile. It took about a half hour of work, going slowly. I wasn't super concerned about making it look pretty, since I know that cheap replacements are available. After the material was removed, I smoothed out the rough edges with a file, chamfered the corners and did a final pass with some sandpaper before hitting it with some black spraypaint. To my eyes it looks much better, and since the removed material didn't serve any purpose, it was a purely cosmetic change.

Hopefully this thread takes off and we can start to see builds from other WK and MCR owners again :)

If you are going to square off the front of the handguard, would it make sense to go back to the gas block, to make disassembly easier?

Yes, that would have definitely been possible because the MLOK slot ends just in line with the gas block. I didn't want to make my handguard drastically shorter (I would have preferred it to be one MLOK slot longer, personally). I just didn't like the lip at the bottom because it served no purpose and looked bad, in my eyes. I realise I could have just bought a longer handguard (and I might, one day) but I wanted to make a cost effective modification in the short term.

whats this about o-rings in upper receiver?

Many of the guns have some slight play between upper and lower. A small o-ring around the small block at the back of the upper will make the parts mate tightly together. I have done it myself and am very happy with the difference.

I'm not even sure what size O-rings I used. I scavenged them from a dead optic and they were able to stretch enough to fit. I'm sure any hardware store would carry an O-ring large enough to fit. It's a cheap and effective way to remove the slop between the upper and lower. I'm very happy with the difference.

just rubber orings im guessing? i did notice some play with the upper and lower receiver in mine, it dont bother me too much but something as cheap and easy as puttin in some orings wont hurt.

I used o-rings off Amazon.ca with the description "014 Buna-N O-Ring, 70A Durometer, Black, 1/2" ID, 5/8" OD, 1/16" Width (Pack of 100)". The bag of 100 was about $7. I've used them on two different WK's and they work perfectly!

I haven't seen any unusual wear on mine yet. I made sure to grease the left side receiver raceway so the charging handle and the bolt lug have a nice slick ride and hopefully don't damage the aluminum. I did notice some wear marks from the top of the bolt carrier rubbing on the 'ceiling' of the receiver and I put some grease there too. I've been considering putting some kind of buffer material on the rear of the bolt carrier but I'm not totally sure it really needs it.

What I'd really like to do more than anything else would be to turn down the barrel into a pencil profile. However I think it'll probably be cheaper if I just get a new barrel instead.
