I have a Cooey Model 60
It has taught two generations of my family to shoot and Everybody hates it,
of the firearms dad has past to me ( given while still alive of course cause he get to shoot when he visits) he said that one I could "give away or destroy"
well I am a sucker for an ugly duckling and I figured I would make this a project if successful i can pass on to another generation and if not its a 60 dollar rifle
my first range with it was sloppy and after i looked i knew why
the barrel was floating ........not a bad thing for rifles but for a "60" and the archaic way it loads and feeds (but it works flawlessly and i its really neet to see working) it prevents a solid weld from the action to the stock .......so it seems to me a pretty sloppy set up, my solution was to glue shims to the stock to thus better support the action and the barrel if it didn't work I could always sand down and start over
results.....it worked !!!!!!
the rifle will now put 5 shots into a nickel at 50m I am happy with that
I am curious what would happen at 100m with a good scope though.
now for the final problem the sights ......... the sights are offset........they are straight as a pair but are off set a bit to the right, I want to put half decent scope on it the question is would this be sacralidge ? I don't think so and if i do make it a "scope only rifle" wich wouldn't bother me or bother playing with the sights?
