Hey folks, so I'm going to be ordering up a Primary Arms 4-14 DMR scope for my stag and was wondering what people suggest for a decent cantilever mount.

I was going to get the 100 dollar Primary Arms one, but it was suggested to me to go with something like the Midwest Industries Gen2 MI instead, for around 180 dollars. Is it worth spending a bit more, or should I save myself 80 bucks?

I went with a set of 30mm MDT Premier rings in X-high on both my Stag 10's. Best $100 you will spend on rings. There's plenty of rail space on the AR10 receiver so a cantilever mount isn't absolutely necessary.

Have you looked at ZroDelta mounts? They've got a great cantilever mount, and available in 20 moa, or no inclination. Remember, the mount is the connection between your scope and rifle - skimping on a mount might not give you the absolute best in performance from your optic!

Awesome, thanks for the pointers! I've thought of just getting normal rings too, so I appreciate the suggestion.

I'll look in to them. This is my first AR type rifle, I've only had an x95 and XCR before this one. So I'm a bit of a noob,

I am getting a BFS Carbon fiber barrel put on when I go on days off, so I don't want to sacrifice accuracy to save a few bucks now.

I run a Badger Ordnance 30mm Unimount with 20 moa of cant on mine. Like all Badger products, it's a solid, no frills unit.

Like others have said, you don't necessarily need a cantilevered mount because the Stag-10 (and all AR-10) receivers are longer than an AR-15's. Had I not cared about having 20 moa of cant, I would most likely have gone with a MDT one piece mount as I have one on a bolt gun and it is solid.

I like aero cantilever mounts. Very light, snag free, cheap. What’s not to like. As mentioned though cantilever is generally not necessary.

ADM Recon!

I'll check them out!

So a couple of you guys have mentioned the 20 MOA now... I googled it to see what that's all about.. More beneficial shooting out to 1000? I may end up shooting that far eventually, as I have lots of crown land to play with, but was initially likely only going to around 600. Is it possible to get this same effect with individual rings, or is a cantilever mount necessary for that?

I've been scouring the internet for in stock Aero mounts, to no avail!

Brownells is your friend :)

I never order from them because of the exchange rate, but I'll take a look! Do they ship pretty fast?

I own 4x ... ADM recon mounts... need I say more !

Pricey!!!!

Just googled them and an Amazon.ca link popped up. Free shipping too![/QUOTE]

Amazon always has inflated prices on gun stuff in Canada. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

There's really no downside to getting a 20 MOA mount and yeah, it'll allow you to dial out to further ranges without maxing out your elevation and having to hold over. You don't need a cantilever mount to get 20 MOA of cant, most unmount/integrated mounts offer that option. You can also attain the same end result with some rings (I think Burris makes some).

I appreciate the info! Lots of options here. Now to decide what to get haha. Definitely going to go for the 20 MOA cant.

Can someone explain to me:

Why would I need to spend $200-300 or more for a set of rings or cantilever mount? Why cant I get a cheaper version, or a Chinese unmarked knock-off? Don't get me wrong, I understand what quality means. Hell, I just purchased a Nikon Black FX1000. However with a mount, its a basic chunk of metal. I know that there is some attention required to hone out the inside dim's on a ring and that it needs to be square with the other ring. With a scope its easier to see why quality is important. Quality, defect free glass is required, but most importantly how all the little pieces need to be properly built and put together and securely mounted within. A mount or rings is only a few pieces.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not #####ing about this or saying that those who spend tons of money are wrong, I just want to understand why some mounts are really that much more expensive. Trying to learn here.

I have used a number of cheap 1 piece mounts and have had good luck.
Sometimes you are paying for better QC, sometimes just the name.
I use name brand mounts like ADM on my quality builds but cheaper ones on plinkers like the Geissele knock off 1 piece.
UTG pro makes pretty good stuff.
MDT has reasonable pricing on quality rings.

Billet aluminum vs. Forged pot metal Chinesium, better tolerances, more secure mounting, quality stainless hardware, DLC coating. You can get away with Chinese stuff sometimes, but it was most likely machined by a 12 year old and quality controlled by a 13 year old so it's a roll of the dice. Personally, if you're about to clamp down a mount on your $1000 FX1000 I would want to know it was machined properly and not going to harm the tube of the scope by being out a hundredth of an inch on the machining. You pay for tolerances, you can't machine a quality product from a billet for less than $100 these days. Many Chinese mounts are cast, not billet, big difference.
