Hi everyone,

I bought an old O/U in pretty good condition although it seems the forearm is glued to the barrels. The gun open and closes as usual, just can't get the forearm off, so I can't take it appart. What do you think I could do to fix it?

Very doubtful that fore arm is "glued" in place. No unlatching lever or slide button on the bottom of the forearm?? I have not handled one like yours, but most are disassembled with action closed, then release a latch on the underside of the forearm and the front end of the forearm pulls away from the barrels. Yours may very well work different!!

Wow! Almost looks like someone "epoxy bedded" for whatever reason and then forgot to use release agent on the metal!! If it was mine, I would want to put the whole thing in a freezer overnight - then try the release lever as shown in your picture and see if the front end of wood will pull away from the barrel - metal will normally contract more than wood or epoxy and the bond often "cracks" or lets go - a "trick" described in Brownells Gun Kinks as a possible solution when missing an area with release agent. Certainly do not want to be applying prying force on that fore arm or it will crack for sure!!

And just to clarify - the lever is operating a latch of some type - so you do need to pull a bit on the front end of the forearm, while operating that latch. The forearm (usually) does not fall off when the latch alone is operated, but I have never handled that model of shotgun.

As per a previous post, it would be good to know what "glue" was put in there! Not helpful as a solution, but maybe to understand the issue - it is an over/under so lower barrel completely encased within the forearm, then part of the circumference of the upper barrel. Any glue or similar filler that was placed in the forearm barrel groove may have flowed around the circumference of that lower barrel - once it has flowed up past the diameter, and then set, it would create a mechanical lock, so no longer requiring the glue to "stick" to the metal to hold the forearm in place. No clue what to do about that!! At the same time, the glue or whatever may have messed up that release lever mechanism - a good sign that the external lever still operates, but possible that internal parts are not "releasing" the forearm from the barrel locking point??

Do you gentleman think I should just return it to the seller? I do like the gun. But is this a red flag for something worst?

Return it. Also ask him 2 questions. What is the reason it was glued on in the first place and second, why didn't he disclose the fact that it was glued on.
But, how long ago did you buy it?

I got it on friday. Immediately sent him some pictures and he offered to take it back right away.I bought it from Tradeex, and I'm not worried about them trying to scam me, just an honest mistake probably.
