Spring Bear Guns

It’ll be the Colonel and I this year.....
No need to worry about ammo shortages, nothing but time at the moment for assembling handloads.

It is not what I "went with," but rather "what I had." I am simply rechanbering a factory .350 Rem Mag barrel to .358/375, so stuck with the 1:16 factory twist, obviously not ideal... if I like the cartridge, I may screw in a stainless 24" 12-twist pipe... and see what it can do.
 
Probably my Ross M10 in 303 British [180 Sierra Pro Hunter @ 2600 fps]

Alternate: Husqvarna 8x57 [196 Norma Dual-Core @ 2650 fps]

Indeed! Every black bear I have shot with a 270 Win has been dead in a few seconds, and I have almost always been using 130 gr bullets into the lungs.

Here's what a 243 can do with one shot, as well.

I don't know much but that sounds about right. 4th Black Bear season for me this spring, will be the same rifle as the past 3 seasons.

Very nice setup Freddy..... I'm not a lever guy, but i would rock that all day long.....

350 rem is a dandy cartridge for the task, and i had one that I bought off Hoyt that had the nicest wood I had ever seen on an m77..... When Hoyt decided to part with the 358 carbine I now have, the 350 rem went back his way on reverse trade.....

Curious Hoyt, are you still in possession of that stock?
 
45/70 SBL or the newly shortened 21” barrelled 358 Norma Model 70. Trying to decide on either 350gr FP Hornady or 425gr cast loads for the 45/70. The Norma will run 250gr RN Hornadys.

My 2 choice this year : EAL Lee Enfield with fiberoptic ft. st. and a Winchester 1886 ( made in 1895) in .45-70 , using .350 gr. Hornady jacketed.

Yup, I still have the M77 MKII walnut/blued .350 Rem Mag, also have an M77 MKII Stainless .350 Rem Mag... they have both take bear and deer... and you are right, it has very nice walnut.
