Hi there guys,

i have my BB coming up on the 20th is there anything i should be practicing, to get ready?

ive been practicing my draw and reloading still hung up with the weak hand draw, so thats one thing ill be doing alot,

anything would be helpfull

thanks

Do not worry about the weak hand draw. Chances are you are practicing a method that is not efficient and all you will do is create a habbit that needs to be broken.

Concentrate on hitting the paper consistantly.......frankly that is a problem most people have. The better you are at just shooting the better we can tune you for IPSC.

100% agreed, hit the target consistently, and out to 20yds, the rest you can work on in the class, under supervision. If you cannot hit the target consistently out to 20yds, consider not taking the course.

From a holster, practise a smooth grip, extract, safety off, weak hand grip, push to the target and squeeze a dry fire. Do that a few hundred times.

Sometimes I have some trouble getting my strong hand firmly enough on the grip in the middle steps of this sequence without re-wiggling and losing time.

I'd almost suggest NOT practicing draws, reloads, etc before your course. If you're doing it wrong, you're going to be doing yourself more harm than good. Focus on just sight picture and trigger control and save the other stuff for after you've gone through the course.

If you can aim and shoot your handgun accurately and safely at a decent pace, you should be all set for BB course. Dont worry about your draw and reload speed. BB course is not all about how to draw fast and reload fast... it is about proper and safe execution. You will develop your speed and skills when you start competing in IPSC matches.

Common mistake when taking BB course is neglecting your equipment's reliability to function thru the course of 2-days. I have helped in a lot of BB courses around and it never fails... there will always be someone who will have a defective equipment.. I am not exaggerating.....
In my own BB course alone, there were 12 of us candidates back when I took the course and 4 of the candidates had been alternatively having a constant equipment malfunction for 2-days..... you can guess how frustrating it was..... I can never stress enough the importance of reliable equipment.. be it a holster, mag pouch and most of all your handgun!!!! Bear in mind, during the 2-day BB course, you will be shooting at a minimum of 500-600 rounds of ammunition... You dont wanna end up at the safe zone all the time trying to fix your constant equipment malfunction while the whole class is shooting thru their stages and having fun. :(:( BTW...bring lots of extra ammo just in case. :D

If you reload your own ammo, bring down the power factor to a reliable practice round. Trust me after shooting 600-rounds of major power factor round, you will feel it's "power factor" before the end of the day. :D There is no ammo power factor requirement during the BB course.

Good luck in your BB course and have fun and shoot safely :):)

I asked the same question when I did my BB in 03 and the answer I got was the only thing you should practice is accuracy. I was told that the instructer will teach you everything else . They did not want me getting any bad habits that the instructer would have to correct.
And I would have to say looking back and being an instucters helper on numerous occasions that was good advice
Good Luck and we look forward to shooting with you at the matches
P.S. PF&G put on some great matches lol

x2
Another thing to remember is to relax , breath , and have a good time.
a relaxed muscle works allot better and smother than a tense muscle.

Another vote for concentrating on accuracy. That way you will not have to unlearn some possibly bad habits and it creates less stress for the instructors as well.

my accuracy is pretty good im hitting a's and c;s from 30 yards the weak hand thing is just me getting my thumb behind the slide i cant seem to put it down and it slows me up really bad.

i was just thinking about any drills or stuff with movement
i havent done any movement shooting yet just stationary

Don't worry about movement. Theres only a couple of strings on the course that require movement (position to position) and both are untimed and shot statically. If you can get your hits you'll be ahead of the curve.

Here's whats required, practice the distances don't worry about the times.

1: ____ Initial classroom lecture (approximately 3 to 4 hours)
2: ____ Load and unload (approximately half hour with dummy ammunition)

4: ____ Draw, 1 shot, 6 times, 15 meters
5: ____ Draw, 1 shot, 2. sec. 6 times, 7 meters
6: ____ Draw, 2 shots, 2 sec. 6 times, 7 meters
7: ____ Draw, 2 shots, 3 sec. 6 times 15 meters
8: ____ Draw, 2 shots, reload, 2 shots, 7 sec. 10" R, 3 times, 10 meters
9: ____ Draw, 1+1 shots, reload, 1+1 shots, 2 targets, 7 sec. 10" R, 3 times 10 meters
10: ____ Turn 180 degrees, draw, 2+2+2 shots, reload 2+2+2 shots, 3 targets, 12 sec. 18 sec. R, 10 meters
11: ____ Draw, 2 shots, move 2 shots, move 2 shots, 2 targets, 3 shooting positions
12: ____ Draw, 2 shots, move & reload, 2 shots, move & reload, 2 shots, 2 targets, 3 shooting positions
13: ____ Strong hand: Draw, 2 shots, 3 sec. 3 times, 10 meters
14: ____ Weak hand: Draw strong hand, change to weak hand, 2 shots, 5 sec. 3 times, 10 meters
15: ____ Kneeling: Draw and kneel, 1 shot, 6 times, 20 meters
16: ____ Prone: Draw and go prone, 1 shot, 6 times, 20 meters
17: ____ Barricade: Right side, draw, 1 shot, 6 times, repeat 6 times on left side, 15 meters
18: ____ Open book exam: Pass mark
19: ____ IPSC Ontario practical pistol match must be successfully completed to qualify for Black Badge

Don't worry. Just remember - always point the firearm in a safe direction and remember to drop the mag before unloading, showing clear and dropping the hammer. Don't practice anything until you know you're doing it properly. I don't think anyone fails - unless they quit. They will work with you until you get it right. Relax!

First of all you should always point the "MUZZLE" in in a safe direction.

Secondly, if you want answers about your upcoming Black Badge course you should be taliking to your Instructor.

Finally, people do fail Black Badge courses. If you want to pass, don't do anything until you take the Black Badge course. Everything you need to know will be taught to you by the Instructor.

Uh yeah, whatever - lighten up a bit, eh!

I'd say your chances are better than 90% that you'll pass. Relax, learn and have fun!

Practice accuracy as an instructor I spend more time breaking bad habits that some well meaning friend has taught someone and the standard excerises that were quoted by PH racing have changed big time we are now teaching a whole new course with new times and excerises the weak hand draw and transfer (you draw with your strong hand and transfer to your weak hand) an improperly done draw and transfer can cause you grief... please do the instructor and yourself a favor and work on your accuracy and let him/her guide you as far as the rest go.
