What's a good 9mm powder

*B* said it right! Doubling charging a case is sloppy work, or distracted reloading. Avoid a very good powder like TG because of some mere conjecture should convince you not.
I like fast burning powder in 9mm & 9mm likes fast burning powder. I’m using Alliant PROMO because it a bulk powder & very reasonable to buy that way. Plus it offers low powder throw weights like Bullseye, 231, WST, TG, 700X, etc.

A fast powder like TiteGroup or Bullseye is easy to double charge and escape notice.

If this is a concern, a slower powder will make a double charge very noticeable.

A medium speed powder, like Unique is a good choice. It can be loaded mild or quite hot, so you have a good choice of power.

Unique is a flake powder and does not throw well in some throwers. Same thing for 700X and Red Dot and Blue Dot.

Medium speed powders that throw well are Power Pistol, N330, Universal and 3N37.

231 (HP38) is a bit faster than Unique, but meters well and a double charge would be more noticeable than TiteGroup.

I use a lot of N320 for fast applications and Power Pistol when I need some power. Magnums get 2400.

I got a few jugs of this on sale at cabelas for a good price:
Vihtavuori N320

No powder tested was more accurate (WW 231 was equally accurate).
Meters very well in all kinds of powder measures.
Produces very little smoke from muzzle.
Does not put nasty burn streak on brass like Tite-Group does.
Low Flash — you don’t get particles and sparks flying out like WW 231.
Cases come out from gun very clean — so you can tumble less often.

I've used (in no particular order) HP38/WW231, Accurate Arms#7 and CFE Pistol. All worked well enough, and a progressive press minimizes the chance of a double charge.

TG. Can't beat the price per round of TG.

That being said, you don't save much reloading 9mm or 223. If you shoot less than 10k per year it's not really worth it.

N340 works for me in 9mm.

Probably the best 9mm powder I have used. It's $50/lb in good times though. I'd hate to see the price with another panic in full force.

Not many people using Silhouette…how come?

Do any of you use cast lead bullets?

I don't often see Western Powders branded stuff. It's a shame because TAC and AA#9 are easily two of my favorite powders.

Been using N320 for many years, just recently started using Alliant Sport Pistol, have the same qualities as N320 but cheaper by 25%, just hard to find in Canada, its a new powder i guess.
