Camp Cocktails - Post hunt celebratory favourites!

At deer camp the successful shooter opens a bottle of scotch, pours everyone in camp a small shot, tells the tale of the hunt then gets abused in a good way. become partial to half decent dark or amber rum straight when I get back out of the cold. Don't really have a post hunt turkey drink mostly as I hunt turkey solo.

We hunted with my uncle for 25 years at his Camp and he was veteran of WW11.After a day of hunting we were mixing Bloody Caesars he asked what they were so we made one up for him he just loved them, next day he says I will have one of those drinks what do you call them Depth Charges ever since that day Bloody Caesars were called Depth Charges. He is gone now but the name still sticks as well as many others.Cheers

Thats a winner of a story. Thanks for sharing.

My avatar pic may be too small to make out but in our camps scotch is king.

Some camp favourites: Highland Park 12, 18 (contender for GOAT scotch) GL/GF 12,15,18, Balvenie and Oban 14, Talisker 10....

My personal favourites: Laphroaig QC, Lag 16, Ardbeg Uigeadail. Peat smoke and campfire are good for the soul. Cheers.

A fine selection. Aside from the Drambuie tradition, we are also well stocked with a couple very fine bottles of wine, as well as some craft beer and of course a fine scotch. That being said, no one overdoes it (unless they plan on not hunting the next day). A glass of wine or beer at dinner, perhaps a wee dram or two afterward. For us hunting is way too enjoyable to be hung over the next day.

i can remember as a kid hunting with people that were my grandpa's age. Everyone of them had a mickey of moonshine with them. no mix at all. "That stuff would freeze" they would always say. Great group of guys and some great memories. They are all gone now, but i think about them quite often
