It comes down to this: I want something "sniperesque". I want it to fullfil a theme lacking in my collection, then to be a fun shooter. I have narrowed it down to a Ross M-10, a Yugo M48 with side mount scope, or an Sks to bubba and add a sidemount scope to.
The ross intrigues me with as genuine piece of canadian history with a crazy bolt and smooth trigger. I'll have to have one eventually, so why not now?
Pros: It's so Cool!!! and I already use .303.
Cons: At $700 and up it's easily the most overpriced rifle on the list for a less than pristene (spelling?) rifle.
The M48 would be a great general use rifle. In a good caliber, based off what many argue as the strongest action, I could scope it with a zrak style sidemount without the guilt I feel with more historically important models of mauser.
Pros: It'd give me a useable and abuseable mauser.
Cons: I don't reload for 8mm yet.
The Sks would be an "econo sniper". Obviously more of a plinking rifle than serious bush gun or hunting rifle, it's advantage is cheap initial cost and ammo. After all, who wants to shoot a gun that costs you $10 a pop?
Pros: Cheaper than dirt and can be abused without guilt.
Cons: The scope and mount would cost as much if not more than the rifle!
So come on, what would be the bees knees for you? Pros and cons of your own?
