My main hope was to have a rifle that would allow for both the use of ironsights and a scope. With that in mind a mosin probably should have been on the list too.

How many would vote for a 91/30 scoped if I had put it up? That would provide a cheap milsurp in large caliber that would more than fulfill my needs.... I still want a ross though...

Taking a rearsenalled Mosin, adding a bent bolt and installing a repro scope sounds like a reasonably cost effective option that would at least replicate the original. It would be cooler as well if you did it to an ex-sniper of which there are quite a few out there. I'd just be sure to get one with a good bore and test fire it for accuracy before converting it.
