Well I shot my first Wolf yesterday :D! 6'4" from tip of the nose to the tip of the tail:D He weighed in at 156 lbs . The pics don’t really do it justice, but when I was holding it with me on the scale it was freaking bigger then me! And I'm 6"2!

Now the story!:D

My buddy Dave and I both have Grizzly tags here in the Kitimat Valley, so we were out naturally hunting them. On our way to a new spot we round a corner and see a huge dog running up the road; but there was no truck around. So we got out the binos and glassed him for a bit and sure enough it was a wolf.

I jumped out of the truck and go after him (he walked into the bush). I thought he was gone, but still I walked up to where he went in and Nothing. I grab a strand of grass and make a few calls with it. (Works great as a predator call :D) But he doesn’t show himself.
So finally I give up and signal Dave to come pic me up!

I walk up to the truck and start to unload my rifle. I look behind the truck maybe 30 yards up the road and I'll be damned but there he is; just standing there watching us. I raze my rifle and shoot! One shot is all it took!

But now here is where it gets really weird! Not 30 seconds after I shot this wolf some people drove up behind it running dogs!:runaway: I thought oh $h!t did I just shoot one of there dogs. But when I talked to them I learned that I had not:p:)

I only have one question do you think that a 300 win mag with 200 gr nosler partitions is just a little big for wolf?:D;)

Anyhoo here are some pics

I would have #### myself if i saw people walking dogs after shooting that!

I'd have probably jumped in the truck and yelled at the top of my lungs "Go Go Go!!! I just spanked some kids dog!" lol

I agree they look just like a pet dog at first glance.
Nice hit!
Post a pic of the rug when it's done eh!

doesn't look 156 lbs but pictures can be deceiving

good job regardless :D

I know man! It doesn't look it! But i should have gotten a pic of me holding it on the scale.... I will show you the pics of the hide in 10days that is when I'm getting ER done :D trust me if i had been alone there would have been no way I would have gotten him out. Me and my buddy struggled to get him out even... but ya from nose to the begining of his tail its over 5' and with his tail he is 6"4

What is that Death-Junkie? An old Rem 700?
Your left handed to eh, cool stuff.

If you ever have any rifles "left hand bolt's" for sale in the future, let me know because as your aware... left handers are hard to come by ;)

EDIT:

Ok, so your pictures are playing games with my eyes lol.

The last two pics show it as a left hander, but the first pic a right hander? wtf? .. lol

Nice wolf.

As for the 300...I know guides who use .338 win mag on everything; moose, caribou, black bears, grizzlies, wolves, wolverines, sheep...everything. One rifle, one load, nothing to forget or adjust for. If you like your 300 then you can be done shopping for rifles. If you want to be...

I don't see a left hand bolt in any of those pictures.

Nice wolf though Death Junky...that's a big dog, congrats.

The rifle is a winchester model 70 chambered in 300 winchester mag. I have a leupold vari-x II 3x9 on er.... I have a VXIII but i want a newer rifle to throw her on.

Maybe not :) my freinds uncle is a trapper, he is going to show me how to tan it and do all that fun stuff :D

YAY! PGKris wanted another excuse to be an #######!!

There is no friggin way that wolf weighs 156lbs unless his stomach had more than 50 pounds of moose meat in it when you shot him:D
How do I know this? My old man happened to shoot a wolf that was 7'2" nose to tip of tail, biggest one to see the PG taxidermist in 20 years. Weighed in at 103lbs and scored well in the BC book, skull 18 and change.

NOW, that's not to say taking a wolf FAIR CHASE, without the aid of bait or electronics, isn't one of hunting's greatest accomplishments, IT IS. Great animal! GREAT choice for deciding that you only need to shoot one. Good luck on tthe griz, but I don't want to hear that it weighed a thousand pounds and went 12' nose to tail. Keep up the good shooting, but spare us the embellishment.
