Where do the regulations say that one must eat the animals they legally take? The regulations say you have to take the edible portions home (or to a meat cutter), after that they are silent.
Are you checking the actual regulations or the hunting synopsis?

Synopsis and Wildlife Act. I can't find where it says a human being has to eat it.
A lot of the non-native species get treated pretty close to being vermin, no?
Or, maybe you can explain.
I have seen comments to the effect that in some of the American Southern States, the limit on deer is one a day.
Around here, in British Columbia, you get two, maybe three deer, annually, unless you go out to the Queen Charlotte's Islands, where they are a bit smaller, and they sell tags for them in books of ten.
What's the deal on Oz?
I remember reading somewhere that dog food is made from horse. Mostly horses that is too old to work and the owner don't wanna pay to care for them.
They also use mustang before they got themselves on the endangered species list.
The practice may have changed as this was many many years ago.

Guessing you haven't been to a horse auction then..... I would hazard a guess that 50% of the horses run through get bought by the meat buyer. They buy all the horses that meet the weight per pound threshold that they have.
Heard about it after the fact, that a spectacular mountain horse that a neighbour had went to the auction. Buddy of mine had tried to buy the horse previously for $3000 and got turned down, and that gelding ended up going for $275 for meat.
A lot of good horses end up on the killing floor. And a lot of useless horses do too, so it probably evens out.
Canada is a major exporter of horse for human consumption in Holland.
useless fact that most folks probably don't know.
I’m surprised nobody’s head has exploded yet. Shooting meat for dog food is a very real thing in Oz, but depending where and what the licensing and certification requirements for selling it can be rather prohibitive.
yeah thats a fair call.
most non native are Pest / Vermin = Deer are technically "Game" off private property, pest inside private property as a Law was relaxed to protect livliehoods...farms..
some of our deer can only take one or two annually, those are Hog deer, limited but its coming more open for ballot an state forest public hunting.
the aussies have been shootin native kangaroo for 100 yrs to feed the dogs, so finally the deer has replaced the iconic kangaroo for pet food... even in stores this is swinging , high deer numbers , low-ish roo numbers ecept some areas.
i could talk fro days on thiss......
lets just aus.. aus has no real value for game animals, no real crazy limitations, an most animals are "pests" in one way or another.
Horses- interesting debates Alpine horses to Desert Horses..
camels
donks,
pigs
goats
I can’t believe any hunter thinks it’s ok to feed wild deer to dogs. I got in a verbal match with an Indian that was shooting cow elk in May for dog food. How is this respecting wild life? It is illegal and should be. Give meat you don’t want to those that do. Thanks
