The U.K. ARs the Next Best Thing?

I’ve wondered about these as well. I don’t know how the UK legislation is worded or rolled out. I’ve seen M1 Garands there as well made to shoot manual action only.

I’m guessing someone would have to tool up and make dedicated upper and lower receiver sets that could pass scrutiny at the RCMP lab as non convertible. Honestly some of the UK versions look like they’ve simply deleted the gas tube and added a charging handle but again their laws are a unknown.

So what would you salvage from an AR? Not much I reckon.

I'm guessing thats a new receiver, new bolt, and new barrel? So you'd be able to use the furniture beyond that?

I have cousin who lives there and is into guns. Last time we spoke he had 22s only (bolt actions).

One of his shooting buddies tried to acquire a 308 bolt action but the powers that be decided he didnt have a good enough reason (sport shooting) and it was verboten.

A gun paradise it is not.

Again looking at the UK versions, without the benefit of seeing one for real I’m thinking most parts save the upper and lower would be the same. Even the bolt carrier just needs to be drilled and tapped for a charging handle. That’s already a common modification down south for AR based “space guns” competing in Match Rifle category. Not everyone down there can afford a T2K.

Would also depend on if the law prohibits a gas port in the barrel as I could simply drive a short 3/16”(?) dowel loctited into the old gas tube port on the FSB and viola it’s plugged.

The British versions still run a buffer and spring and just simply manually cycle the BCG.

Gotta say though it looks a bit silly, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

No kidding. And this video could be dated so perhaps they can’t even own these anymore.

New upper and bolt. You probably can keep the barrel. Use this guy's method.

That’s awesome. If only we could get the can to go with the rest of the rig.

I took a long range course in Texas a couple years ago and the instructor said, “ I guess I’ll have to wear ear plugs because of you savages who don’t have supressors”. Most of the Americans there ran cans. I was the lone savage apparently:p

I get that we may need to find other options temporarily, but this seems very defeatest. Get your a$$ out there and make some noise for gods sake. And for the love of god vote in leslyn lewis so we can get a majority and teach these a-holes whos boss.

Receivers, bolt carrier (minus the bolt) as everything else including the barrel can be used.

What about the gas port? Plugged somehow?

I suppose a guy could use an adjustable gas block where the gas can be turned off

On my PAR you reverse the gas block to block the hole or use a trident clamp.

In the video he mentions that over powered cartridges may create extraction issues. I have found no ill effects when letting the gas bleed out of an AR barrel without a gas block. Just what our hand placement.

he is allowed 22 semi autos with no mag limit
if he joins a rifle range ( i recommend minsterly bog) he can apply for every calibre he wants and he will get it.
no mag restrictions on any rifle and sound mods are a go go
