For Immediate Release! CSAAA- Shotgun ban!!

I'm just curious if there was some experience you have had that lead you to those conclusions based on your experiences in court...

I would have to assume Ed, having actually put his name to his opinion, is relatively comfortable with it based on his own experience with firearms law...

I would assume so too.

I tend not to like the "argument from authority" logical fallacy - that's why I set out my reasoning in full here for people to make up their own minds whether I have a point or not.

Evaluate the argument on its merits. I actually think it speaks rather poorly to the original speculation that I, as a rank amateur, can make a case against it.

I'm not sure you have...

As a firearms owner... the firearms laws have no merit so you are automatically starting at a disadvantage in this case imo...

In this case the OIC is very clear that all are prohibited over 20mm so the only question that I can ascertain that would be the legal definition is how the RCMP labs classifies guns and in this particular case the bore diameter measurement... that's the basis for what Ed is saying....
If they dont consider a threaded muzzle part of the barrel for overall barrel length... why is a non fixed choke counted for bore diameter?

The fact it's even a question shows garbage legislation beyond the stupidity of the ban itself....

After contacting local Rcmp office, It was oversight that shotguns were covered in the OIC, and theyve addressed with CFO/registrar in ottawa, theyre still waiting for more guidance.

My concern were the non restricted shotgun owners who simply have a trigger lock on their firearm, now it needing to be stored as a prohibited rifle, he told me if its stored as an NR, its good enough until they can figure out their end.

LOL, we will see what happens.

I'm not buying it.

For them to talk about artillery in the same sentence as 20 mm bore...
They're essentially talking about shooting chickens and anti tank artillery in the same sentence.

I think not.

Otherwise they would have just made the limit 15mm.

Why leave it to hundredths and thousandths of a measurement for compliance, when they could have just went with 15mm lol!

You haven't lived till you have done a Turkey shoot with the recently prohibited javelin launcher....

Sadly that is gone too

Pre-OIC storage conditions are still applying …

"The firearms will have to be kept securely stored in accordance with the legal storage requirements for the classification of the specified firearms prior to their prohibition."

Just because they consider the regulation to be an oversight doesn't diminish its legal force in any way. Until the regulations are amended, it is law. All in the same boat now...

Yep still not buying it. They made so many little clerical errors in that prohibited list. This is just another error.

Yeah probably is just another error but even if that is the case it seems to me at least that it is good circumstantial evidence that this OIC was not written as fact based policy and should be able to provide us with needed media coverage of the slap-dash way this was all put together and foisted upon us.
This could end up being good for all of us in the long-run.

How is it an error? You think they meant 21mm instead of 20mm?

To some extent, it doesn't matter what the cutoff is, some shotgun is making it to the sh!tlist.

I won't believe anything the RCMP says on this until they post it on Twitter. Then we'll know they're serious.

I doubt that they intended to ban one of the most popular hunting long guns in Canada, but it sounds like they did. If they are forced to admit their mistake, that opens the door of doubt for many other technical oversights, (big bore bolt action, etc.), and discredit the entire document.

Both my Citory and my Benelli M4 are larger than 20mm. Weirdly my H&R 10 guage is good to go at 19,8mm, I wanted to cut the barrel of my Citori for years from 26 to 23 inch, The Benelli is another chit story.

Rofl, I love this, now that this will affect a much larger number of people maybe something will be done about this complete Buffoon of a prime minster we have.

Problem is the pin up information boards at the gun clubs aren’t accessible to spread this information to inform the old dudes.
