"the regulation introduced on may 1st does not prohibit 10 and 12 gauge shotguns. the regulation for 10 and 12 gauge shotguns is based on their standard size both under 20mm.
in accordance with acceptable firearms industry standards, the definition for bore diameter explicitly states that is after the chamber, but before the choke in shotguns. therefore, if the measurement is taken at any other location, it is not a factor that is being considered under amendment 95 of regulations"

seems like backtracking and using vague generalizations like "in accordance with acceptable firearms industry standards".

Well, why don't you do an extract of that standard and post it here, we want to see it. Right now, several lawyers specializing in gun laws are telling us these shotguns are prohibs, and any one ignoring it is doing it at his/hers own peril.

Do you test the chamber for bore diameter? No. Then why would you take the id at the chokes treads at the muzzle as bore size?

The legal opinion is here. This is a fiream lawyers legal opinion. So you are wrong. The choke threads are part of the bore.

Yea, a tweet from the safety minister, that is your defence if you are caught with a prohib?

If he is using industry standards to measure a shotgun bore, shouldn't he be using the same standard to classify firearms? If that were the case he would see the banned rifles are neither military assault weapons nor intended for use by the military.

He is cherry picking what he wants.

We most certainly live in interesting times. I never thought I would see licensed firearms owners defending the minister tasked with implementing Canada's latest gun ban, but here we are.#

Especially someone who would not hesitate to kettle us or kick us into a pit if it impressed the Sock Puppet.

They need to make it clear in the NEW OIC, this Tweet does not trump the law.

The choke tube needs to be OUT to measure, here's the reason why, if you have a short pistol or shotgun (too short for our laws) you cannot add a thread to make it longer nor you cannot add a Breacher choke to make longer and legal. All removable parts do not count towards the overall length. SO why would they no need to take out the choke......

They tried to pass this law in haste but got caught

This is misinformation but worst absolute case if the retards made this stick is a drop of epoxy in the threads and it's now fixed and permanent
F#ck trudo and little Billy

What makes you think locking the chocke with epoxy is a legal way to make the bore diameter legal, when a permanently welded muzzle device is not good enough when it comes to barrel length?

Because no lawyer has ever been wrong before....they all have 100% wins in court.

Law enforcement have already said they will enforce it. I am retired LE, firearms analysis was part of my job. I am telling you from my experiences, people WILL BE CHARGED with the whole choke issue. It wont be wide spread, it'll start with known criminals and associates, but it will set a precedent. Then the other owners will be open to it. The OIC's intent WILL NOT BE REGARDED when it comes to charging. Blair's tweet WILL NOT matter when it comes to getting charged. It "may" for part of someone's defence, but it WON'T be a defence.

Quoted so everyone can read this twice! What Bill Blair says on twitter does not make something legal!

I dunno... I recently learned Public Safety Ministers can alter the contents of a legal document by issuing a proclamation on Twitter...
It actually does count if he cross posts in on Facebook too.

/sarcasm if not obvious.

This may not be enforced today. Or next year. Or 5 years from now. But if this is allowed to stand, a more liberal interpretation by a prosecutor out to get you can easily wring you through the courts and it won’t be a frivolous case based on this OIC.
