I recently upgraded my 10/22 TD, i thought i'd share. I wanted to build something compact and since its takedown, i wanted the rail mounted to the barrel rather than receiver. I figured it would guaranty return to zero after every take down. I ended up getting an Adaptive Tactical Tac Hammer 9" barrel with cantilever mount and magpul backpacker stock. Then mounted a 1-4 leupold scope. I really loved that set up, it was great in every way, boringly accurate, reliable, and returned to dead zero every time. The only thing bothered me is that when the barrel is taken down and fitted in to the stock (backpacker feature) the rail and the scope would significantly stick out at the back of the stock. That would bring folded OAL to almost the same length as assembled. :) which kinda ruined the compact takedown idea.

So then i decided to reverse the rail towards the front and move the scope to "scout" position. Ofcourse i needed a different scope, something with longer eye relief, so i picked up this Bushnell 2x - 6x pistol scope. Its pretty good, made in japan, glass is surprisingly clear and even the eye relief works well. Now when its folded it looks much better, and fits well in any of my backpacks. Eventually i will get a nicer scout scope. For now just have to wait for this quarantine to end so everything can go back to normal, and i can test the gun out.

Very nice setup Dmitri. What are you doing for bags? With the pistol scope setup, does the entire assembly still fit in the Ruger bag that it comes with?

I have that exact barrel and gun built by CSC, I’ll post pics of it when Canada post finishes getting done with delivering the remainder parts, however I’m taking the rail off.

Very nice build. I want to build the same gun. Can you tell me if a takedown uses the same barrel as non takedown ? Will this barrel work in a takedown ? It is not written takedown version anywhere.

I have a TD with a conventional receiver mount, and honestly have noticed any change of zero after hundreds of assemble/disassemble sequences. It is important to make sure the barrel mounting tension at the receiver is correct, but so far, no issues in the last 5+ years.

I purchased the one CSC had advertised recently, it’s now done. Added a Midwest industries rail, Dlask nitride bolt, Timney trigger, magpul backpacker optic mount, Kidd charging handle and spring. For optic I went with 30mm low QD Warne rings and a 1-4 illuminated Bushnell Prime, which tbh has better glass than my 1-8 strike eagle. Also going to add a flashlight with an offset mount to the front rail.

It also came with the canted rail on the barrel which I took off since I doubt it’ll lose zero as long as it’s properly adjusted, plus I doubt it’ll be noticeable with a 9” barrel.
