STI is No Longer

Not just rebranded, but they have changed their customer base, from the people who put them on the map - competitive shooters and the like, to LEO only - it seems.

Not LEO only as GSG1911 says. Only specialized, highly trained LEO’s might be given the 1911 cocked & locked option.

STI has moved upscale to pure competition autos with some other filler firearms. Seems that they are not 100% employee owner either anymore. So what? Many firearm companies morph into other companies. Its the nature of business. New names are not new either.
STI/Staccato still makes quality firearms.

STI caught my eye some years ago with their Trojan model. I bought one and was hooked, I really wanted their Premier in 9mm but it didn't happen for me. I have one of their 2011s and it is a great gun but I am more a fan of the proper 1911 single stack classic. As STI abandoned the 1911 platform and took up the race gun thing I was disappointed. Obviously they are trying hard to find a market that is profitable for them, it just won't include me anymore it seems. Too bad, but it was fun while it lasted!

Well, I bought my first STI/Chipp McCormick frame back in 1992 to build my first 38 super open gun(first sight on it was an Aimpoint comp. Now they had changed direction for a different market cluster and I wish them the best, I just don’t fit in their range of products anymore.

Unfortunately I cant see now an out of the box pistol for IPSC as affordable as the “edges” and “trubor” were, I still have a spartan, Trojan, 2 edges and a trubor and love them.

Today Brazos and Chelley also produce the 2011 frames But a build always is much more expensive than a out of the shelf one.

Had a 6” TargetMaster in .45acp. Sure was accurate. Paid about $1800 from Gunnar years back. Was thinking of their Nitro 10mm, however as I age I need to downsize the herd:p

STI used to be great guns at reasonable prices but they became great guns at really high prices. The Trojan, for example, was an excellent deal when it was around $1400 but not as much now at $2200.

I bought my Trojan for 1200, bought 4 edges 40SW for around 1850 plus taxes between 2009 to 2012. The spartan line used to sell for 600/700 out of EE.

People can ask anything they want but to find someone to pay what they want is a different thing.

Indeed, the ones priced well and not beat to death on the EE sell fast. The overpriced ones sit forever.

It's a sad day when this happens I will hold on to my two 1911's though great guns
