First year hunting bear by myself. I started baiting about 5 weeks ago in a spot about 200 yards from a big swamp, low to no hunting pressure where I know there should be a few bears. I have my stand set up 25 yards away - In the barrel I had scraps from throughout the year, dog food, and marshmellow/syrup/jello mix/sugar that I heating up and poured in. I dumped about 25L of used fryer grease on the ground....
Not one bear came in for a few weeks, and then June 1st at 7:00AM I had a decent bear on my trail camera. He/she was just getting into the barrel and at 7:10 on my video, it shows it running away, and at the end of the video, a wolf's head/shoulders pop up in the green bush looking where the bear ran....what luck!!
So now I'm wondering if the bear will even wanna come back, it had just discovered the barrel and in 10m a wolf chases it off and the wolf doesn't even come to the barrel where dog food had spilled on the ground. A week ago I mixed water/sugar/vanilla extract and sprayed all over and up in trees - I have since added popcorn and bread - Any more ideas guys? I have a few days left to hunt - because of work, maybe 3-4 days. If I don't use this tag, and get a bear this fall, can I still get a 2nd tag during the fall? Sorry for the long post. Thought you guys might get a good laugh, I did, it's funny but also not funny!!
