Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

Is there any difference in the wait times between handguns and restricted rifles or are they all being processed equally?

From 1st hand experience, restricteds going out of ON (I live in BC) are approved VERY fast. I bought a pistol from a bloke in ON yesterday and it was approved WITHIN 24 hours. I sold an AR-15 around April 15 to a bloke in ON and I am still waiting. I even submitted a complaint with the ombudsman. Both parties. Got an initial response but since then nothing but tumbleweed.

The problem here isn't a backlog or COVID, it's some punk being political and making our lives hard on purpose. Every province seems to have increased in efficiency... stuff going out of Ontario is fast... but stuff going in takes months.

Just started a pistol transfer today. Can't wait to have my gun in September lol

Hahaha, buy another gun to keep yourself occupied.

For all of you finally getting your approvals, did CFO ever notify you of the approval by email, or the first you heard was when the seller told you?

I called the CFO on June 11 and been told that applications were approved on June 10. Then got called from the store the same day (June 11).

I’m only in 3 weeks since my purchase so figure It’ll be another 5 weeks, unfortunately...

Looks like the Ontario MTO works to the same ethics as the CFO. I renewed my plates online on 12 April and was issued a 30 day paper receipt that would prove compliance until the stickers arrived in the mail. Called yesterday and they are working on 5-10 April and said I should be getting mine next week. So 8 weeks for them as well...

Just got my Ontario vehicle license plate stickers in the mail today.

Exactly 8 weeks so MTO and CFO rock to the same tune...

I asked the gun store to mail me my gun. He told me that it will take me a long time to get it. Canada Post is taking weeks to deliver. MTO, CFO, Canada Post are all barely working.

Tell them to ship it Canpar. Same price and much faster.

Dealer in AB applied April 28. CFO Ontario sent him the approved transfer today (for ON). CFO never sends the transfer to the buyer; only to the seller, IMO.

Any information on how to contact the obudsman office? what information did you provide them? Just so I can be prepared if I decide to get impatient

Here is what I got back when I made a complaint

Good Afternoon,
My name is Richard Francis, and I am an Early Resolutions Officer with the Office of the Ontario Ombudsman. I am writing to you because our Office has received your recent complaint regarding the provincial Office of the Chief Firearms Officer (CFO).

For your information, the Ombudsman is an independent and impartial Officer of the Ontario legislature with authority to review and investigate complaints about the administrative conduct of municipalities, universities, school boards, and provincial government organizations and to issue remedial recommendations.

If you have not already done so, please email us answers to the following questions regarding your complaint.
Questions:
1. Please provide your Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) number?
2. Please provide your full name as it appears on your PAL?
3. Please tell us how many individual transfer requests you have pending with the provincial Chief Firearms Office as of today?
4. Please provide the date(s) that you submitted each pending transfer request(s), if known?
5. Please provide the transfer order number(s) you were provided, if known?
6. Have you complained directly to the Chief Firearms Office of Ontario about delays? If so, please provide some details about the update you were given regarding the status of your pending transfer request?
7. If you have corresponded with the Chief Firearms Office of Ontario directly in writing, please forward the relevant written correspondence, if any, between you and that Office, which may assist us to better understand what issues you have escalated and the response provided?
8. In order for us to make inquiries about your complaint with government organizations, we require your consent to do so. Do you provide your consent for our Office to make inquiries with government about your complaint to us?

Once we receive your answers and any documents, they will be reviewed, and our Office will determine how to proceed further with your complaint, including what type of inquiries we may make with government. In the meantime, if anything important about your complaint changes, such as if you are notified that the CFO has made a final determination about one or more of your transfer applications, please let us know by email.

I would appreciate that instead of replying to this message, you could email the answers to our questions and any documents or further information to our Office’s general email box, at: info@ombudsman.on.ca, and write “Chief Firearms Officer” and your full name in the subject line.

Please be aware that given our Office’s role and function, we are unable to speed up, or otherwise change the prioritization of your CFO transfer application.
Thank you, and I look forward to further reviewing your complaint.
