SKS's flying off the Equipment Exchange

I wish I can travel back to 1992 when I first got my F.A.C... my locker would be full of interesting paperweights.

LOL so true man
At one point right before Kim Cambell ruined everything...... I had so many SKS rifles and crates of ammo from lever arms along with a steyr aug, Inglis Bren MKII and a trw M14 , all converted autos that I stupidly sold to a collector just before the deadline...... silly me.
The good ol days of walking into lowermainland gunstores, passing row of crates of .303 brit, 7.62 Nato and chinese silver box x39..... and more M1 Garands and full stocked Enfields and Mausers for prices that would make todays new garand enthusiast cry hehehe

History is repeating itself and thank goodness we have the internet to allow everyone to communicate and organize a defense against this further abrogation of our rights as canadians.
The Sks rifle is one every home should not be without..... one for each adult as far as I'm concerned.... at the minimum LOL

Need some help here folks. When the government firstly proposed the FAC back in 1977(?) there was an option for a lifetime issue of an FAC if the individual desired nothing but non-restricted firearms in thier future.
I think the bait was this was a free offer as long as one volunteered for this program.

I am sure I worked under one AERE officer from Gaspe peninsula who had this at CFB Moose Jaw.
She and her father took up this offer.

Edit: this was a one year pilot program that ceased in about one calendar year.

A low dollar =/- $.70, a relatively small market spread over the third largest country in the world, with an anti-gun gov't, virtually no domestic production and an expensive distribution system and you get higher pricing. New guns go up, used and milsurps follow. Add the gun grab OIC which will likely be overturned in court or rescinded by the next Conservative Gov't and SKS's start selling for $350 - $800 retail. It will get worse IF the deficit continues to rocket through the roof. Stay tuned.

ps Just paid $375 for an all matching Russian. I stole it LOL or paid to much. I am happy, and the gun will be here on Thursday. I probably still can;t see the Fnnnn rear sight notch but hey Trudeau might be dumb enough to give me a grand for it....when he attempts the 2nd waive of seizures. If not I'll put a scope on it and shoot tin cans with it at 100 yards.

la barons 1991 price is expensive cos i started a collection of "D" in 2005 and bought 3 between $250 - 275.

but i would have bought the 20 rounds mags from them .

This is only slightly related to this thread but because there's always some interest in the D models I thought I would re post this again;

Back in the last days before magazine capacity limits, in 1991 at the Le Baron's Yonge St location I looked at this rifle new in the box. I had never seen an sks before and I was going to buy it but for some reason the bayonet turned me off, what was I thinking?

From the 1991 Le Baron's catalog:

Wow thanks for sharing that! Do you have the whole catalog? Incredible how things have changed in 30 years...

Curious to hear any thoughts on D overall build quality and reliability? Compared to Russian? Is it worth the premium?

Note no SVT-40 back then?... :yingyang:

I don't recall if I saw any SVT-40's listed in the old LeBarons catalogs I used to own. I just checked the 1991 and the 1996 catalogs and I don't see the SVT-40 listed. I'm going to guess that they used to sell them but I don't know when the first SVT-40's entered the country.

interesting, 5 years later the price for a standard sks dropped by $100 and it comes with a jungle stock. now, thats a good price.

You guys with experience regarding the collapse and wars of eastern europe are very interesting to listen to. Especially if you are noticing patterns here.

they are many western countries that may be impacted the same as us. i will repeat my thought on it: we re far from what happened there noting that doesnt mean it may not happen as well but the cocktail that created those wars is not here.

$400 seems so expensive when I bought mine for $200. That said the SKS is an awesome rifle that I think is still worth $400 if you don't already have one.

folks it will take a stroke of a pen for JT to ban sks rifles not sure where you would shoot one since ranges likely will not allow prohibited / banned weapons of mass destruction on their property - and - get shut down by our dictator

All ready mostly shooting ranges aren't allowing the use of millsup ammo in 7,62 caliber.

1991...
Norinco SKS-D - 7.62x39, new condition, $272.94

Some interesting points:
Chinese SKS more $$ than now (well 6 months ago).
Russian SKS less $$ than Chinese SKS.
Garand for $260

Man, I wish I had been 18 then, and knew what I know now.
