It's the 3rd ever rimless cartridge.
It's the very first 7mm cartridge
There's probably nothing on the planet it hasn't slain
128 years later it still gets the job done as well as the .270, .280, .308 & .30-06.
I like trivia:
The 8x50R Lebel, 8x57, 7.65x54, 7.5 Swiss, 8x50R Mannlicher, 7.62x54R and 6.5 Carcano definately predate it as smokeless rounds and the 303 British, 30-40 Krag and 8mm Lebel revolver may as well, that is 10 for sure, 4 of which are rimless. There were also many experimental rounds and variations.
It's also likely debatable where the 7mm came from; Mauser, Roth, Rubin, or somebody else. There were experimental smokeless cartridges down to at least 5mm.
