Old Tasco japan scope worth?

I got an old Japan made TASCO WORLD CLASS 1.75-5X20 compact.

Originally got it to mimick a no4 T on the cheap a few years back, wasn't happy with the result and couldn't find a closer replacement. Finally kept it irons.

I can only find limited infos on em on auction site and prices seem to range from 30-300$..?

Anyone can give me an idea what to expect? If it's really only worth 30-50, might as well keep it for some futur project, but if they actually are sought after, might be worth parting with it.

There were a couple of Tasco (branded) scopes that were highly regarded such as the 'Titan' models ... but I dont know about your scope, but I think $300 would be a VERY optimistic target. I have been surprised by some less expensive scopes though.. for example the Scopechief scopes were pretty darned good.
 
I have the exact same scope. Bought mine back in 1980-81. I forget how much I paid for it but it was not expensive. Regardless, the Japanese made nice glass. Much better quality that the current crop of cheap scopes coming out of China. But I can't see getting anywhere near $300 for one.
 
I have had good experience with older Tasco - note that Tasco does not, never did, "make" scopes - never did own a "factory" - they sourced out parts, assemblies, assemblers, etc. to meet the specs of the particular buyer - the buyer's specs and the buyers price point. Read up on SWFA scopes - spec'd by US Marine Corp - Tasco got the bid. Tasco would "make" as "good" or as "cheap" as buyer wanted. On older ones, I would be leery of the variables - they depend on seals and with moving parts, more likely for seals to give up. That said, we still use a 1.75-5x32 Tasco that we bought for our Dad in 1980's (?). Doubt he ever adjusted the turrets after we "sighted it in" for him. Was not one to fiddle with magnification either - was at 3.5 power when it came to me. Brother has it now, says it tracks perfectly out to 500 yards. Good enough for sporter M1917 30-06... Most definitely spent 20 minutes or so underwater while Dad being dragged by inflatable raft along Kakwa River in Alberta - I think that was the fall that Dad turned 75 - so 1999 - and he wouldn't let go of that old rifle!!!

Perfect example for an old 336.
I'd be asking around the $150 iff'in it has no issues.
Might be worthy of a Trace send in to have it looked at.
Peepolekind prefer serviced old scopes and are willing to
up the anti for such.
Don't know your investmint into it, so the effort would
be your call.
 
They are a good quality scope; mine was on my AR until recently. I looked for one for a while, and finally found one in great shape mounted on a cheap air-rifle at a gun show. Price was $75.00 for the package. I offered $30 for the scope; he counter-offered with $35 for the scope and rings. They are worth what people will pay. Are they worth 100?, likely; but I would not pay that for one personally. I do see them occasionally in the used scope display at Gobels for $60-70. Most I see are somewhat older; the silver antler logo on the side indicates a somewhat more modern manufacturer; sometime after 1996 when the original owner sold the company I think. In my experience, the pre-"antler" series Tascos are superior for clarity, durability and workmanship. I have been shooting with Tasco since the 70's; recently I am moving to other brands due to quality/clarity issues with their newer scopes I have bought recently.

Without the AR, I think mine needs to go on a short barreled CZ .22 for the optics class of our club level shoots.

I say keep it and use it. It is very unlikely anyone will pay you as much as it will cost you to get a similar scope of better quality. You could much more easily find something not as good and pay more.
 
Sorry guys, I'm late to the party. I have the same scope WA1.75x5x20. Made in Japan. I still have the box for it and there is a sticker price of $339.99. I honestly don't remember which store I bought it from and how I can even afford that back then. It's a good vintage scope and goes well with my vintage 10/22.

I have about a dozen 70's and early 80's Tasco scopes, I think they are a great scope for the price now and a quality scope back then. They usually go for 50-100 bucks now depending on condition. I just bought a near perfect 3-9x32 Japan Tasco off EE for 80 bucks shipped 3 weeks ago. I'd give you 75 bucks shipped for it, if it's in very good condition. I have a 4x fixed on my Savage 99C .308 that my dad put many round through, hunted with for around 20 years and it's still a great, reliable scope almost 50 years later. Most of my Tasco's are on my .22's and 5mm mags.

I picked up an old Japan made Tasco 4x scope and it's quite nice with what looks to me to be fairly good glass. Certainly worth the $40 I paid for it and will work great on my single-shot bush rifle.
 
I run one of the fixed 4x with fine duplex on my 8mm HVA 98...no issues, good glass. Got the scope for free somewhere along the line when an old timer upgraded.

That looks great! It truly makes me appreciate the old Tasco scopes a lot more now. It is no Leupold but it has an old vintage charm to it. Thanks for posting the photo.

It's hard to find a gloss scope theses days unless you go vintage. I have a couple steel tube Weavers (K4 duplex, K3 German post) but they need a trip to Trace before I can mount them...pretty gritty inside lol.
