Firing pin broke on my RDB.

Problem 1: I bought it used, so I am not covered by the warranty, and KelTec's online store does not ship to Canada.
Problem 2: No retailer in Canada actually stocks KelTec parts. Someone from Vault Distribution actually told me that.

I tried to ask GoTenda and FoC to order it for me. Former refused, later didn't reply at all.

Anyone have any ideas what to do now?

Just ask Vault to see if they can sell u the replacement firing pin. (As long as the rifle is imported by them) and u r willing to pay for the part.

2nd option would be set aside ur rifle for now. Open an US P.O Box across the border (not sure where u live), once the borders r opened up, u can order from Kel Tec and have the part shipped to ur PO box, then u can pick it up at ur US PO box location.

VD cannot sell me anything, I already asked them.

PO box might be an option, even if a major hassle. Do you know what do I need to open one in US?

IRG is probably your best bet.... Keltec parts are so reasonably priced that it's unreasonable for Vault not to stock a bunch in Canada.

Search for user Pcwgr1 He was selling some on the EE just a few days ago. I bought a spare off him. Not super cheap but better than trying to get it yourself.

Edit: had wrong username

Back before Vault got athwart Our Hosts here and became an ex-user they claimed to not be set up to do ecommerce and were hoping one of their retailers would pick up the spare parts line. Between the warranty/graymarket situation, the aforementioned social media fail, and the lack of retail spare parts, I went from seriously looking at buying one to taking an utter pass on it. Too bad, they look like fun guns.

Option 2 would be illegal, unless ITAR rules have changed and I didn't get the memo?

Thanks for the lead, mate. He actually just contacted me too.

So does it mean that VD would NOT service any KelTec guns even if you pay them ?
I would understand VD would not provide "free" warranty service, but it seem insane for them to only provide service for guns they imported. If so perhaps it is time for KelTec to change importer.

The issue as I understood it is that they can't accept the payment. They will mail out part for free if you're on warranty, but cannot do anything if you aren't.

You know whats more frustrating than having an used keltec with a faulty firing pin?

A new keltec bought from a reputable retailer through a reputable distributor (not going to mention their name). It developed an intermittent problem which I believed was the firing pin. Guess what, the retailer told me to contact the distributor for warranty. The distributor told me there is nothing they can do. I reached out to "V" as well. He was very helpful. Search for my post.

There is a none site sponsor that is a sponsor of other sites that can import and get these parts. Vault is farce, IRG doesn't really do parts. Neither Vault Kel Tec or NS are doing Kel Tec any favours in Canada for distribution. I do recommend buying through IRG and using them to export to US for any warranty work.

I don't believe the Kel Tec RDB is on the ITAR list. It's a full commercial version. Export permit on RDB parts shouldn't be required (some of the AR parts and scopes I ordered before were on the ITAR list, it's a pain in the rear to get the export permit for them). Since the RDB firing pin is available in Canada through Vault, then CBSA wouldn't care about it anyway. My buddy is a CBSA agent and he confirmed that if the parts is available in Canada then u can bring it over without any issues.

Just another reason the distributor in Canada should have plenty of parts in stock..... if their customers don't have to pay for parts I would assume they don't pay either.

Ultimately the customer is paying for everything. Where else do manufacturers and distributors get any income? You're paying essentially an insurance premium on the thing working when you buy it, and hopefully most people don't have any claims and the economics of it do push the manufacturer to make a quality product and make it repairable, but that's the money that covers any warranty costs that do arise.

In this case it smells like V is running a Canadian warranty paid by a small percentage on the guns they distribute, but it's a nominally free country both sides of the border and there are other players shipping guns here and it's not fair to V to expect them to fix a third-party firearm for free. And it probably wasn't smart of either them or Kel Tec to set up this way and have a fragmented Canadian market with various people having bad feelings about this mess. Ideally the manufacturer would be backing a Canadian warranty centre that didn't have to kvetch about how a gun got into the country, and ideally that would be able to e-retail you a firing pin if that's all you wanted too.

As I understand it, Kel-Tec is trying their best to stem the flow of US-market guns coming into Canada to prevent more grey market firearms from adding to the existing problem. I think NS actually bought guns from a US distributor that went belly up, and there are no laws preventing them from doing so. Unfortunately, retail stores are just as complicit when they sell these grey market guns without informing the buyer as such.

A lot of stores just copy and paste product descriptions directly from US sites, including the parts about the Lifetime Warranty, when in fact the guns don't come with one. It gets worse when a store stocks Kel-Tecs that came from Vault (with a lifetime warranty) AND also grey market Kel-Tecs from NS that have a questionable 1-yr warranty. That's not good business.

The whole spare parts market in Canada is a thankless job for any retailer that tries to take it on. Look at how many companies have juggled being the CZ importer over the years.

I've worked in firearms retail in Canada so I know a bit about the ins and outs. I can only imagine it puts Vault in a tough spot because they want to remain a wholesaler only, but now there's a number of Kel-Tec owners out there looking for spare parts and they can't provide any parts because no retailer wants to stock them. Vault did say (before CGN deleted them) that they could easily bring in parts to supply the demand, but they'd need a retailer to actually place the orders first. They also said they're looking at creating their own retail side for parts, but who knows how long that would take?

Keltec sells firing pins directly for less then $20 to cover second hand guns that are no longer lifetime warranties.... It's all pretty basic stuff including your point that nothing is truly free.
