Real Italian T2 Garands

The Tradex T2s look bona fide to me. They have original re-marked Springfield receivers and look used. The Marstar ones had Italian made receivers and looked new.
When did said "grandfathering" take place?
back when they neutered Centre Fired Semi's to 5 rounds.
Kind of ridiculous that an 8 round semi auto 30-06 is still legal, but a 5 round semi auto .223 is illegal

Danish 308 garands, remember them?
There were a few Danish M1 Garands in 308 imported to Canada 5-6 years ago ( forgive , I am old so give that window of time a variance of a couple of years either way). They were pristine with both Breda and Beretta receivers being available. I bought mine from one of the Calgary dealers. I have an article from The "Gun Collector" magazine that talks specifically about them, otherwise there are few glancing mentions of them in references on non-US Garand variants. Numbers on important parts match and look as new. I shoot mine from time to time. Never bothered to do the take a picture of every part and post on a serious collector forum thing. That usually ends up ++Yankee drool and estimates of value so high I'm afraid to even pick it up. Looking at the price of these new imports maybe I should not touch it!

So no QC or blatant safety issues with those? I bought one as well but have yet to shoot it.
These T2 rifles Tradex are bringing in come directly from Italy.
He also told me the Italians have about 55,000 Carcanos they are also selling off but because of huge delays with Montreal port he won't bring any in for now. Damned coronavirus is getting in the way again!

Italian TIPO 2 or T2 M1D 7.62 NATO military TS sniper conversion on Breda rifle

A few of the Italian T2 rifles were sold last month in the US and I was able to purchase an original Italian TIPO 2 M1-D 7.62 NATO Tiratore Scelto or TS ('marksman' or 'sharpshooter' depending on translation) conversion. It was reported that approximately "400 scoped rifles" were recently (March) sold in Italy at a large auction. During the same auction, a number of other m1's (likely T2s) were sold. They might have been that last ones in stock in Italy.
The rifle i bought utilized a original 1953 USGI M1-D barrel that was converted to 7.62 NATO. This meant the block was dismounted, the chamber shortened by turning down the feed ramp end 12.7mm, re-threaded, and the block once again installed. The part or drawing number (D7312555) was over stamped (cancelled) with scroll work and new markings added to the top of the barrel indicating the conversion (of the barrel) was done in 1965.
As previously seen on other original TIPO 2 conversions, the "CAL .30 M1" was milled off and 7,62-2 etched behind the rear sight. On this rifle, the conversion utilized a BREDA receiver.
The woodwork all appears to be Italian walnut and matches closely in grain and figure. The M84 scope mount is not US. Unlike US mounts that were forged and then finish milled, these "Italian" mounts appear to be all milled and blued. Its very well done.
The flash hider is an Italian made M2 variation and marked with the Fabbrica Armi Terni (FAT) 1957 acceptance box stamp and PARAFIAMMA M2 or "baffle", "anti-flame" , or "Trumpet" depending on translation. The post-war Italian military received a great deal of British military aid including rifles and web gear. The transit case was built in the same style of the British No4(T) sniper.
If you are interested in the Italian rifles, I strongly recommend the book, il Garand in Italia 1951-1996 by Ruggero Filippo Pettinelli. It was printed in Italian (no translations are available) can be ordered online. the photos are very good and informative.
This rifle is a very welcomed addition to my collection. I'm looking forward to see what it does on the range.

That's a nice looking rifle and a slick conversion by the Italian military. Its interesting that they took a scallop off the bottom of the converted USGI barrel. They did this with their purpose made T2 barrels, but I've never seen a converted US GI barrel with this same modification.
