I don't think I've posted in this section before, I don't get to shoot my pistols often.
So I was shooting last weekend, just playing with mag changes and one handed shooting. I've been working on my weak hand for a while now and it always feels awkward. I've never felt really in control of the pistol with the weak hand.
Just on a whim, I closed my right eye and shot left eye/left hand. All of a sudden it seemed to come together, not as good as strong hand, but it felt much better.
Anyone else done this? Did everyone else know but me? Are the two halves of my brain not connected?

I've dabbled with using left eye for left hand. I didn't find an immediate improvement. I mostly like how it keeps the wrist and gun more in-line with the forearm.

I shoot weak handed in the "gangsta" style. Sights are almost useless when the gun is tilted 45-90 degrees, depending on the distance and the angle. I haven't given thought to left eye/left hand, but I think you're right. That's what happens instinctively.

I'm a lefty, left hand left eye when strong hand only, when I shoot weak hand I always shoot right hand right eye, practice and it becomes normal

You, and this French fella, Eric Grauffel, do the same thing. He matches the eyeball to the shooting hand.

I shoot right handed but to drive the gun with my left I need to use my left eye otherwise I'm really just guessing.
That's my first post.

Shoot in Ipsc competition quite a bit no one is ever used to something new, take 300 rounds to the range and only use you’re left hand and always use your dominant eye I slightly squint my other eye when shooting left handed that way I track the red dot faster.

Yeah but he also wraps his support hand trigger finger around the front of the trigger guard, so one should think twice before trusting him.

He can do what he wants, the way he wants...and it is correct.

He is the World champion of IPSC.

we were trained to shoot with weak hand and the following eye: right for right left for left but that was in the army and many strange things were taught in those days ...

I shoot double duelist is cowboy action shooting and I noticed that my revolver is shifted a lot in my left hand in order to bring the gun under my right eye. That shift could be causing you issues and make you feel clumsy. I’m squared up on the target though.

In order to reduce the hand shift you could stand more sideways, but that would require you to tilt your head more. A tilted head could throw off your balance and make you feel clumsy.

You've been forgetting the requisite "testes squeeze" for this stance to work properly. I guess the theory is the harder you squeeze, the more your eyes pop out and afford better sight picture.

I practice single off-hand shooting and it's always awkward. But with a bit of practice, you can deliver practical accuracy... no reason why lots of practice wouldn't deliver dominant hand accuracy.

I've tried same eye same hand, doesn't work for me. I use my right eye for either hand, strong (right) hand or other strong (left) hand (by the way the "other strong" is an old joke).
Eric is a freak, a complete freak. The dude is designed for shooting and his regimented practice and training only hones what he was born to do. He is never surprised at a match, and never looks like something is awkward or unknown to him. I know everyone says Rob Leatham is The Great One, but honestly Eric is a far better shooter than Robbie, at least in IPSC type shooting with pistols.
