Best cat's sneeze rifle out there?

It’s too bad their out of stock. That would be ideal for the heavier bullets.

I also have a tree eating rodent problem and I used to use a Marlin heavy barrel 17 HMR. Worked great but was heavy and extremely loud. Nowadays I use a short length Savage 22, Troy Landry model and that works well. The CCI Quiet’s are not too bad for noise but have too much of a bullet drop at anything over 30 yds. I now use standard 22LR in it.

Sure would be nice to have a long barrelled 22 that would handle the Auguila 60 grain bullet. I've heard the 25-20 mentioned many times on this subject. Nice Destroyer by the way.

If you handload, you can come up with some interesting loads in any of the old handgun rounds, and some rifle rounds. I had the old 44-40 down to I think 2 grains of Bullseye before I stuck a bullet in the barrel. At 2 grains it would still drive a 215 grain hard lead bullet 6" into end grain pine at 10 feet.

Oh wow, and only 2 grains. What did that load sound like? Was it a carbine or full length barrel?

I once owned a single shot sidelever release English rook rifle rechambered to 38 Spl and 26 inch barrel.
With 148 grain full wadcutter and 2.3 grains of now forgotten powder, the report was more like a loud pop versus the crack of a 22. Killed lots close range bunnies with it in river valleys of South Saskatchewan.

I have had a 60 gr Aquila stick in the barrel.

No problems 60 grain SSS in Toz-17 rifle.
Just more drop. IIRC to hit a pop can consistently at 60 meters I had that ramp site reading 100 or 110.

At the pistol range Ruger Mk II 5.5 bull barrel pretty accurate at 20 meters. Flawless function too. A bit dirtier though.

Online it's often reported the Nylon 66 they function very well with squirrel head accuracy to 50 yards or thereabouts.

Long barreled 300blk shooting subsonics. Swap ammo and you still have a decently useful rifle
I load trailboss in my 223 to duplicate 22mag ballistics but with a 69gr tipped match king. Reducing that load further should get you subsonic easily enough

Aguila makes a sub-sonic ...
Rob

Didn't sound particularly quiet to me. Be interesting to see how it shoots in the majority of 22 rifles seeing as they tend to have barrels in and around the 16" range. I also wonder if they will stabilize those bullets...you're not making a lot of RPM at 950 FPS and apparently RPM is what stabilizes bullets.

Do you reload?
Check out "the load"
Most 3006sized cases can be loaded with light charges of fast burning pistol powder to push normal weight for caliber bullets at or just over subsonic velocities. I routinely load my 308,303,30-30,45-70 with these light loads for plinking or younger shooters.
Red dot is my favorite powder for this although there are numerous that work. There are some very serious problems that can occur with loading this type of thing so make sure you follow published data from tested sources and fully understand what the dangers are so you stay safe.

Me favorite mouse-fart loads so far be used in my LE build in 32-40 Win. I use 165 gr hardcast over a variety of powders including IMR 4227, Trail Boss, 5744,
Lil' Gun & Titegroup. All powder charges are held in place with a lightly tamped dacron filler wad & ignited with standard LP primers.
The rifle shoots well at velocities ranging from 800-1200 fps and is decent in lower sound signature compared to many other options out there.

Grey squirrels & rabbits don't like this gun. ;)

Any 357 lever rifle should do quite well preferably with a barrel at or longer than 24 inches.
Handload of 38 Spl 148 gn full wadcutters and 3-3.5 grains whatever powder. This is a target pistol handload.
Make sure that barrel is squeaky clean!
