Dumbest anti-hunting comment you've heard?

"Get your meat at the supermarket. There's no need to kill animals." - Okay...so...the meat just grows inside that cellophane package??!

"How could you kill something as beautiful as a deer?" - I guess that cows, chickens and pigs hit too many branches on the ugly tree when they fell out of it?

"Guns are for guys that have small d**ks." - From a former co-worker who bought a Porsche, expensive suits and sunglasses...and couldn't afford it.

"There's no reason for you to have a gun." - There's no reason for you to have a car either...take public transit or ride a bike.

Gotta love insomnia & checking out some of the threads I missed earlier...

I've had a few anti comments... Of course there's the near inevitable grocery store comment. I point out that until they visit an Alberta feedlot, or just about any hogfarm or chicken ranch, they're too ignorant of how that grocery store food is to even look at, let alone eat.

The whole "no one needs a gun" thing comes up too. I love asking those ones about history... They don't like that.

The bambi thing. I ask them if they're really so ignorant as to believe that real deer have ANYTHING to do with anthropomorphic animated characters designed to entertain children... Usually that shuts em up.

My personal fave, when they pull the "you must hate all animals and nature" thing... I ask em how many times they were out in the woods last summer, away from roads and buildings and those damn pay-for-a-parkingspace excuses for a campground. I then ask them how can they make such a stupid comment, as which one of us is the one who when in the woods, and sees some trash, picks it up & tosses it into the back of a truck, bike or quad, so it won't mess up the environment. Which one is the person who collects the old fishing line & such and bags it to take out when they go fishing. They don't like that.

One thing I never underestimate is the sheer stupid ignorance of someone who doesn't see the benefit of hunting.

Just got this one yesterday

"You hunters. You should all be shot".

My reply was "well, I will meet you in the park at 10 and you can take your chances"

So there I am, in the park at 10, alone. (well, not really, I was asleep at 10;))

From an anti during the summer:" How can you shoot animals?" Reply:" How do you want your steak done?" Anti: "Medium rare please." *head shake as the sarcasm was totally lost on him*

Back to the topic later..."So how can you shoot animals?" "I aim, I take my time and pick my shot". Yes, this dink annoyed me by then.

From a veggie:" How can you go hunting, its so inhumane." Reply: "Nice shoes, leather aren't they?" Anti: "Yes of course, plastic makes my feet sweat." *head shake, lost again*

From a vegan:" I am a vegan because I don't believe in cruelty to animals." reply: "I hunt because I don't either."...then the conversation deviated off to free range, humane one shot killing, etc as opposed to factory farming. He ended up with a grudging respect, although he still disagreed in principle. (props to him, he has kept at it for over 25 years)

Finally, my youngest daughter. "Dad, I can't eat that moose or anything else you hunted. I'd rather eat fish or chicken from A and P." Reply: "Sweetheart, where do you think the fish and chicken came from?" "Oh."

I got this one TWICE on the same day (I am the only hunter on a jobsite of about thirty guys): "The animals that are slaughtered for supermarkets are MEANT for that purpose. Wild animals are innocent."

I deadpanned that I do my best to shoot only the ones who look like they are guilty of something.

From another goof the same day: "I never eat anything that once had a face.":runaway:

I don't know if it's "dumb" or not, but I don't like the attitude of someone who thinks it's ok to hunt for meat, but they don't like "trophy" hunters. What do they think is done with the meat from that big buck?

A guy told me its unethical to hunt moose because they are so slow. He says what he'd really like to do is hunt grizzly with a handgun.

My wife's friend......"How can you shoot Bambi?"

My reply....."Bambi is a cartoon, not a real deer. You should seek some help if you are confused about that. Maybe if you spent less time infront of the tv and more time hiking in the woods, your ass wouldn't be so big."

Would have been funnier but it was at a Christmas party a couple years ago....

THANK YOU!!!!!

Now there's coffee all over the living room carpet and my favorite chair.:eek:

They're probably unaware... AKA seriously ignorant... That ethical trophy hunters (as most are), either use the meat themselves, or pass it along as a gift to someone who can really use it.

My mom gets meat from local trophy hunters, as she has a medical condition where she can't digest beef or pork worth a hoot... Mostly due to all the extra crap they shoot into the animals to max out the profits. Hormones, antibiotics & so on. She gets the meat for the cost of driving out to pick it up.

For those few people who CLAIM to be trophy hunters, yet let the meat spoil... I don't consider those hunters, but poachers & vile ones. I suspect I'm not alone in that. Especially on this site.

In Alberta it is unlawful to let the meat from a game animal spoil, ethics has nothing to do with it.

I know... That's not to say that there aren't folks that do it though. :(

Those are the ones I have problems with.

For example, my sis' boyfriend hunts & he's found dead animals, shot for their antlers. The carcasses left to rot.

Mind you, the folks he's seen in the area are tight with the local CO... So who knows what's REALLY going on there eh.
