I picked up a small militaria lot at an estate auction recently. I believe the belt buckle is WWI Prussian NCO, but anyone with more knowledge if more than free to correct me. There was a men's munitions worker's badge showing that the wearer was considered exempt from military service due to being an essential worker in the production of munitions. The head-scratcher is the Imperial German eagle badge. Is it even military? Obviously, it was meant to be hung on something. A chain? A watch fob? Part of some decoration? Whatever its original purpose, it's a lovely enameled badge on copper. If anyone has seen or encountered one of these before, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks all.

# 1 is a Prussian belt buckle
# 2 no idea
# 3 depicts the coat of arms of the kingdom of Prussia, FR = Fredericus Rex, most likely Friedrich II der Grosse

Thank you. #1, I'd kinda figured out with some basic research. #2, the same. Those badges were serial numbered so it could be proven that the wearer was indeed working in a munitions plant and not just ducking military service. As to #3, I knew it was an Imperial eagle, but I didn't know it was specific to Prussia, so I thank you for that. I'd just love to have someone tell me definitively what it was for or from.

Addendum! Hey Polaris, thanks to your answer about the eagle, you put me on the right track to ask the proper questions in my research. I just thought you'd like to know where your answer led me. The shield is part of the 25yr. veterans award. Here's a pic of the award as it would have been presented. Thanks again.

I always have to chuckle, it seems when it comes to war, God is on everybody's side.

It has been said that there is no such thing as evil, only ignorance. Just like there is no such thing as darkness, only an absence of light.. the same is true with coldness and warmth, hatred and love.. I don't believe "karma" is an external force; if one believes he is in the right, perhaps God is on his side?
