Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

Even buying from a Gun Store is taking this long? They must have closed like the Service Ontario branches. I know a lot of people driving with expired plate stickers and licences, as they are backed up like mad.
 
My inbound transfer to ON from Wolverine is 9 1/2 weeks now and still counting.

I sold a restricted on Sunday to a guy from Alberta, called in the transfer yesterday morning and the email approval came in this morning less than 24 hours later. Of course it was the Alberta CFO approving the transfer.

Guess I’ll have to pen a letter to Ford this morning.

UPDATE: Just got the email this morning for the transfer. Business in MB to me in ON, 22 May - 28 Jul, slightly longer that the AB CFO of less than 24 hours.:sok2

Here to make things interesting . So the transfer went through on the 21st of July , no notifications at all . Today I come home and see my registration certificate on the table , phone the business and they tell me they shipped it out today . What a bunch of BS , the firearms was approved 7 days ago and the registration managed to get to my house before the gun even shipped .

I know the cfo or registrar or whoever does the transfer is to blame for this delay but I woulda thought the shop woulda had a bigger sense of urgency to ship this out considering the wait and the dollar amount but they took their time ...

I did send a letter to Mr. Ford on June 23 for a transfer initiated May 25 …
it was forwarded to Ontario CFO and I received a reply dated July 6 …

as a health emergency was declared on March 20, CFO is working with minimal staff.

They understand the frustration, but due to a combination of minimal staff and the high volume of transfers
(there are more than 6200 transfers pending) and diligently working to decrease the number of pending transfers while
maintaining their mandate of public safety.

Still waiting for an approval, more than a month after writing to Mr. Ford …
hopefully, not much longer - in a few days as per CFO today's e-mail …


Add: the Vendor just called, they got an approval ( I didn't', despite a note attached to the case) - can pick it up. The Saga of Glock - May 25 - July 28, 2020

The western provinces can run through these in a couple of days - if Ontario has so many new transfers going on, that they are backlogged for two or three months - perhaps they should hire a few more clerks ?
I know that you are currently busier than a one armed paper-hanger, but if there is anything your office can do, to help Ontario's CFO, get closer to the efficiency of the other provinces, myself and thousands of others, would greatly appreciate it.

the fact of the payment to a vendor/seller just allows the vendor to start the process of transferring …
it's still registered to the vendor, until your province's CFO approves the transfer …
until that happened, the firearms is legally not yours (the vendor's) and you are not allowed to possess it …
the event of transfer approval triggers 3 things (in addition of Transfer Notifications) -
1) revocation of the firearm's registration (certificate) to the vendor,
2) approval of you being a new owner, so an actual transfer/shipping to you can be done, and
3) order to Miramichi (CFC) to issue (print) a new registration certificate in your name …
so you, after receiving it, can take it out of your dwelling in accordance of ATTs issued to you

I always ask for the notices to get sent to me by email. That way there's no wait for a paper copy.
 
I always ask for an email notification but the last two they have processed for me they somehow "missed" it and never notified me. I only found out they were approved by calling and asking if they went through. On one this delayed the seller shipping to me by a week. Ask me if I'm pleased.

Ontario has by far the highest number of restricted firearms. As of 2019 there were 365,000 restricted firearms registered in Ontario. Alberta and BC were second and third with 193,000 and 181,000, respectively. I have no idea how this data has changed for 2020 so far, especially in light of COVID and panic buying. Still doesn't excuse a 10 week wait period though.

14.5m out of canada's 33m live in Ontario though, so proportionally speaking the distribution of restricted per citizen is quite in line with other provinces. IMO the CFO office here is just understaffed being a liberal stronghold I wonder why. FML

Actually the transfer went through July 13th , why in the world did the shop take till the 28th to ship it ?
 
Blame Covid and make a late tax installment, see how far that gets you.
Covid is a catch all excuse for even poorer service levels than pre Covid
