Gday, its been a while since i've laid down a Sambar stag, since the nye bush fires which devestated the bush an left what deer survived very shellshocked, ive been monitoring an documenting the bush and the deers since day 1 , and being August, my birth month, coinciding with some of the areas rutting, its always great to be out esp this morning as there was unexpectedly low snow and as i drove out to the huntin spot i could see the whispy clouds an white dusting of snow on the top around 600m abs, it was primo sambar hunting weather!
i will add a story of the hunt tomorow or so, im knackered as i type this, just came inside an its 9pm, i left home at 6am, shot him at 10:30 and got home about 3, prepping the hide and finished caping the face ....
lots of video of him an shot him on camera, so will link you guys when i edit it and upload it.
for now, a Pearler to open the Account for 2020.
shot him with the A bolt 30-06 180gr woodleighs, hit the shoulder, didnt exit and the tuff bugger carried it pretty well, as you will see... the projie didnt exit from 50m or so across the gulley, an i didnt recover it after i caped the animal, but we are going back in a few days an hopefully by then the dogs havnt eaten the bullet?? but we plan on shootin dogs on the carcass -an il dig for the bullet
3 encounters with this stag but no good footage , its been a great challenge to try an relocate him a few times in the system where he roams!
mixed emotions prior to the shot , but in the end it was the hunt that lead me to the moment... its what i love... the chase.
HooRoo!
