Best pump shotgun???

fit is what u should look at first. either will last a lifetime. The super nova seems to have a longer LOP, great 4 me. When u bring it up to swing if its not natural, try something different. Mossberg is making a finr shotgun (835). Best of luck & keep us informed AJ

Don't know squat about the Benelli, but I do know my Wingmaster 870 is simple, reliable and trapshooters have but hundreds of thousands of shells through them. In my opinion, the Mossberg has a superior design of the safety, but I don't think they are as durable in continuous use. The Ithaca is a classic design, but trapshooters didn't like the bottom ejection as it wasn't as easy to see the gun was unloaded and empty. The Browning is also a bottom eject design. That doesn't mean they are not fine guns for hunters. The best plan is to shoot one of each. Go to a trap range and try the different pumps you find there. In my experience, shooters will happily help a person considering a purchase to try and see what suits them best. I thought I might want a Browning Auto-5 until I shot one. I also, question the necessity of buying a. 3.5" chambering. Most of the time you won't need it, unless using the gun for long range goose shooting with steel shot. Buy a 3" if you must, and for the amount of shooting you will do at waterfowl, buy bismuth or hevi-shot that will give you better performance in a shorter shell.

Remington 870 Wingmaster. Best combo of looks, reliability and price on the market today. I wouldn't bother with 3.5" chamber. Shells are expensive and there isn't too much more the 3.5" can do that the 3" can't. Also, just about every guy I know that bought a new shotgun in order to have a 3.5" chamber, shot 1-2 boxes out of their new guns and then switched back to 3" shells. Long story short, unless you're a recoil sadist, a full day of shooting full bore 3.5" magnums is going to beat the hell out of your shoulder!

The best plan is to shoot one of each. .

That is the best advice!

another thing I would add is don't cheap out. If you can afford a wingmaster, don't go for the express or norinco:puke:

If you can afford a Benelli Nova, do not buy the cheaper copy distrubuted by the same importer. Stoeger:runaway:

Think about it! If they are made or supplied by the same company at half the price? Maybe you get what you paid for. :yingyang:

I had a Winchester 1300 ,tried many times a Remington 870 express and now own a Benelli Nova...The 1300 was speed pump its verry nice , with a good rust resitant finish. The 870 is shooting a little slower "no speed pump" rust magnet but feel like a tank and upgradable just like a Civic or 350ci Chevy....The Nova is only the best of theses 2  :shotgun:

I've used a Rem 870 and a Mossberg 500 and a Winchester 1300 alll quite a bit, and I've got to say the Win 1300 wins hands down. It is definitely my "go to" shotgun as far as pumps go.

Just checked out most of the guns mentioned in this thread, I think I may add one of those Novas to my safe, looks like it is worth a try.

Ford or Chevy?

Coke or Pepsi?

Smooth PB or crunchy?

'Best Shotgun' threads always read the same, whether here or on other shooting website forums. Posting the question in places like this may make for interesting reading, but you shouldn't consider it to be an objective concensus on which to base your decision.

When considering a choice from the major brands, they can all be depended on to go bang when you pull the trigger and have models in similar price ranges. Nothing takes the place of doing your own research (not to be confused with simply listening to the opinions of others) and actually shouldering a sample or two and working their actions.

The reality is, any of the shotguns mentioned in this thread would be a 'good' choice ...the question is, which of them is best for you (and only you can answer that).

I was looking at the Winchester 1300 and the Remmy 870.... Settled on the Remmy and bought a Norinco HP9 :D. It's an 870 knock off and you can say all you want on some of the Norinco rimfire quality issues... but their HP9 is fantastic as far as I'm concerned !!! Worth a look if you're working within a budget. I think you're limited to synthetic with the HP9, so if your looking for something in a wood stock, you may be SOL.

I guess you missed those "My Norinco crapped out" or the "dealer will not do anything about my crappy norinco" or the " I have to pay shipping almost the price of the crappy norinco" threads?

Yeah, I did a search in the shotty section on "Norinco" ... I found the thread you mentioned. It was right beside the "Thumbs up for the Norinco HP9" thread....;)

If the price is right, my recomendation to consider one still stands !! :D

This will be my 5th season with the Rinco, so far 0 issues.

YMMV..

You must be really old or wise beyond your years:D
