SW 629 stuck in DA

Good Afternoon

I just received a SW model 629 in used condition. I shot 1 round flawlessly, reloaded, shot 2 rounds then on the third it didn’t fire, I held gun pointed down range 60 seconds, nothing happened so unloaded. Now won’t go into SA? I cannot #### the hammer without slightly pulling on the trigger. See pics attached, where the screwdriver is pointed is where it is catching. How do I resolve this?

I should note I tried to tighten the spring tension screw under the grip and I tightened the revolver Thimble screw. The two tabs that are machined onto the trigger and hammer assemblies are hitting when I try to #### the hammer into SA

Does the action cycle normally with the cylinder open?

Also, please clarify "revolver" screw and "tabs that are machines onto the trigger and hammer". Do you have the side plate off already? Are you talking about the sear engagement? If so try to use this picture as a reference (since you haven't posted any pictures).

Sorry for some reason won’t let me post a picture?

The action will cycle fine, cylinder open or closed. Just won’t let me pull back the hammer into single action now!

You can see the two tabs I’m referring to in your picture. Where the trigger assembly meets the hammer assembly if that makes sense? I apologize I am new and do not know the proper terminology but am trying to learn!
 
This happened to me twice on two smiths, culprit was a loose ejector rod. I tightened it back up with a little dab of blue locktite and it never unscrewed again.

Thank you I did try that First as I tried googling the issue before posting on here, but didn’t seem to help! I haven’t added any loctite yet but did remove, clean, at re oil before re installing ensuring it was right. Didn’t fix unfortunately.
 
It can be several things and a picture would be best but...

1) Is the strain screw tight?

2) Has the strain screw been shortened by the previous owner? Try a spent primer between the mainspring and strain screw to temporarily add additional pressure.

P.S. Don't worry about knowing the exact terminology but looking up an exploded parts diagrams should help you.
 
If my last suggestions doesn't work...

I want you to hold the cylinder release to the rear with force while attempting to #### the hammer. We need to see if the center pin and spring are pushing the bolt back far enough.

Something is wrong with the internals, and it's not you main spring pressure...the action NEVER should cycle with the cylinder open!

Is there an overtravel stop? If so then it may need to be adjusted to increase the amount of overtravel.
 
That part is functioning. I had the plate off and was watching where it was catching. It was the two tabs as mentioned between the hammer and trigger

It will if you hold the release back while you do it. I hope the OP knew that's what I meant but since an experienced member like yourself posted the above I'm beginning to wonder, lol.

Did you put something between the strain screw and mainspring to add tension and check function yet?

This will be a trial and error kind of thing, especially since you still haven't been able to post a picture. If you think this is too much for you than I would suggest getting in contact with the Canadian S&W warranty centre (Wolverine, Grech ???). You'll send your gun, they'll take a look, probably fix it and you'll get your gun back in a year or two.

Well that option sounds terrible!

It seems like you cannot attach a picture from your computer in this forum. I am more of an Outdoorsman, less of a computer tech. Ill get my kids to help me figure that out. I apologize.

I rebuild Outboard Powerheads for a hobby, I am sure I can figure this out. Seems fairly straightforward actually, as far as moving parts are concerned. I am just new to the hobby. I do appreciate the assistance to a new shooter. Some other forums find it entertaining to ridicule a new member that asked "stupid" questions, rather than assist them. I don't find that is useful in any way to attracting new members to a hobby. Detrimental actually.
