The Norc 1911's just landed in Canada !!

The only reason there is a demand for these guns is because of the low price. While Marstar or anyone else can price them however they like the point was that given our strong dollar the guns can be sold for the same price as they have been and the seller would make even more profit on them than they have in the past. A price increase based on the rational (or lack there of) that since the price has not gone up in the last batch it would be acceptable to raise the price now, is flawed.

If you are unaware of what is happening regarding international trade then I would suggest you should do a little research before posting uninformed opinions. While I don't really expect the price of these guns to come down I know that because of our dollar's current strength the profits will be higher than they were in the past even if they are sold at the current price.

I'm quite aware of the gains of our dollar...and that Marstar is likely paid less for this shipment...That was not the point. What I was trying to say is that there's not much to choose from in new centerfire handguns for under $300-400. Norincos are basically only handguns that aren't overprices here when you coprate our prices with US prices. (yes I now you can't get new Norincos in the states) but used once go for $250-300 south of the border! While other guns in Canada cost about 30-100% more than they do in US! So even if Norinco 1911's were $100 more they would still be 'reasonably' priced when compared to other guns here.

bottom line is this:
if you think they are too expensive, don't buy them
if you think you can bring them in and sell them for less, please do so
small market == less people to spread the fixed costs around to
if the market supports a higher price than what the dealer is selling them for, then expect to see this reflected in EE postings for resales

Yes the Chinese sell in US dollars, this contract was signed and paid in Dec 2006 dollars....
Please also considerthat the Chinese have increased most of the prices this year....
Marstar has NOT raised the prices on Norinco guns for over 7 years....
Shipping costs on containers have increased by almost double....

Air cargo rates have increased by 60% in the last 14 months....

NO WE ARE NOT RAISING THE PRICES ON THE 1911a1....

It is a very large shipment of pistols only, a wide selection of Norinco to replenish our depleted inventories....
We flew in this large lot because of the many delays from Norinco....
More containers follow by sea.

When the US dollar goes down many of the exporting countries simply increases every other cost involved, brokerage, forwarders, inland freight, air cargo, sea containers, etc, etc....
That way they keep their profit margin....
Although our replacement costs on some items have decreased related charges have increased so we are back to suare one.

If anyone else wants to pay for 800 handguns, 11 months in advance, and sell them for less than $325, I'm sure they're free to have a poke at it. :redface:

The quantities and variety of firearms that Marstar imports for sale to Canadian shooters leaves me gobsmacked every time.

Were it not for Marstar, we wouldn't have the CHZ-2003 (pretty much made for them), the $399 M14 package, $325 1911's, some very reasonably prices Bersas at the moment, and so on and so on, for how many years? By the containerloads!

For people blasting 'big distributors' for overcharging, or charging what the market will bear, etc..., do you reckon with the demand for Norinco guns, as evidenced by Marstar seeming to sell out pretty much within weeks, the market would bear a $495 M14 or a $375 1911 were Marstar to start charging that? No price hike in 7 years?

And still, John comes here to educate people in his charming way:eek:;):D. The fact that he isn't just sitting on a boat somewhere warm and throwing people the bird tells me he's in business for more than JUST the bottom line.

Enjoy the prices folks. Seriously.

Well at least you are back to square one rather than going backwards. I work for a Canadian electronic manufacture. Half of our sales are to the USA. We sell our products to our distributers priced in US dollars. When we produced our last price list we had considered a worst case situation as a 90 cent Canadian dollar. We sure as hell didn't expect our dollar to go this high (US dollar to drop this low). This high dollar is killing us.

Unfortunately we have had to eat the difference between today's dollar and our worst case projection. Fortunately we only have to live with this for another couple of months when we can revise our new years price book. I don't know what we will do yet since we can't just pass on the difference in costs due to the currency rate difference. We still have competition. If we raise our prices in order to get back to where we were we may price ourselves out of the market.

I work with alot of chinese...picked up a bit here and there.
