You're probably a nice guy, but I cant understand a thing you type. Welcome to my ignore list.

I'll echo some of the Northern BC posts here. So far in my usual spots the numbers are dismal compared to previous years. Lots of rain this spring...and summer.

With the wet spring and summer I think they should be down in the 3-5 regions, I know they are down where i hunt in 5-02

Interesting. I was just up moose hunting an LEH draw in 5-02B for 9 days. We didn't see any grouse in the first few days, but the second half of the trip we saw a bunch. My friends got 8 birds between two of them in about 15 minutes, two sets of 4 not a km apart. In total we took about 20 birds without really trying, they were incidental while driving to/from spots where we were looking for moose, and in total we probably saw over 40 birds.

If the grouse numbers ARE way down, then I need to go back to that area when its a good year because the bird numbers were pretty good compared to the places I hunt closer to home!

Most places around home last year we’d see close to 40 birds a day, that was exceptional. But most of the time we probably see around 20 or more. Not so much this year, not many birds around.
Had a draw in 6-01 a few years back, went with a buddy for three days, we didn’t get a moose that trip, but we came back with more than forty birds, all head shot with his 10/22 takedown. That’ll give you an idea of how many birds were actually around...

Walked 15kms on Friday through my prime grouse hunting spot. Didn't even see one. Will probably wait until it gets a little colder out and the leaves fall off before I go again. Usually my best grouse hunting here is in December.

Really good year in Northern Ontario.

I saw lots breeding this spring so im not gonna shoot any this season. Ill let them grow up some more and hopefully theyll have better numbers on my land next year.

Years ago i read a study on ruffed grouse population and it's various factors. I well remember a line from it's summary, which read something like:

"...human predation has almost zero effect on grouse population."

Damn. Kinda makes me want to move to 100 Mile House or something, I love hunting and eatting those tasty little ditch chickens! In fact, that was dinner last night...

Before opening season I Shaw 20 while driving to some spots looking for moose. Now I am going for grouse and I do not find a single one... Life is hard...

LOL! You are the first individual that I'm aware of who put Looky on the ignore list just because of his unique style of writing. Most of us here can decipher it well enough and rather enjoy the twist. :)

Saw the most grouse in one place ever on Friday (3), managed to neck shot one of them with my 6.5x55 before the other two disappeared into the timber. Good way to not get skunked.

Let's just say that sometimes he tones it down alot and then i generally appreciate what he had to say

Only been out once so far this year, no opinion yet but numbers haven't been great for years so the 7 year recovery cycle should at least be starting now.

I don't know about that, but it can certainly turn a population of what in an unhunted area could rightly be called 'fool hens' into one of the fastest and wiliest game birds that exists. Which is part of the fun of course.

I have a woodlot north of Algonquin park in central Ontario that always holds fair numbers of grouse. They flush wild though. Not fool's hens or ditch chickens by any stretch. There are still lots of ferns and leaves right now but in the past couple days without trying too hard the dog and I flushed maybe 10 that I heard but I only saw 3 and one woodcock. I would say that is down a fair bit vs. previous years. We had grouse for dinner last night, though.
