Hey guys. How do Type 81 sights work? I see the numbers on opposite sides of the drum but does the number facing you as the gunner indicate the set range? Or is it the number on top?

I’ve got a “1” “3” “4” on the right side of the drum. I’ve got a “6” and a “7” on the left side?

It’s a head scratcher for me

Mines the same , I have a 5 on the right hand side drum but the drum doesn’t turn all the way to the 5. Stops halfway between the 4 and 5 actually dropping the sight lower than the 4 setting by a tiny bit. Does yours do that as well ?
I have 1 , 3 , 4 settings then the half-way-to-5 setting thats lower than the 4.
I also have the 6 and 7 on the left side drum , the 6 on the left drum is at the same position as the 1 is on the right side drum. The 7 on left drum is same position as 3 on right drum. To remove handguard I put mine to 1 then pull left drum out and rotate clockwise (towards buttstock end) to line it up to remove handguard.

Had one in my cart but decided to see how it goes first. I don’t really care to be the first guy to get one. After some positive range reports I’ll probably buy one in the next batch. If no more are imported, oh well. Still not paying 2x retail and I’ll just move along.
I agree...I had 2 in my cart, one of each with a drum and mags
I can wait

I already have a Russian 1st year production Izzy and a Chinese military D model then a factory 26 and my favourite and the one I shoot the most often Yugo M59/66. I think I’m good for SKS,s.
Also have fixed stock T81 and soon to have phosphate LMG.
Don’t worry Bubba won’t get his hands on any of my stuff but I may take the bipod off if it’s going to shred my rest.

Then you have plenty to compare it with, I will look forward to your report.

I had same problem with regular T-81. Theres 2 sides to the sight and they weren't lined up correctly. I loosened off the set nut and shifted them to align. Put a dab of locktite on that nut. Mine shook loose at the range and I almost lost it.

A man who buys 2 of everything, I can very much relate.

Very nice collection.

My dad did the same as I have as well, I have his life long collection of rifles now that are 40-70 years old and many are in mint unfired condition. My dad almost always bought one to use and one to keep in as new condition. Many of the used ones were sold off here and there over the past 10-15 years when he got to old to use them, but he kept the unfired ones for me to have.

I find it messed there’s an actual demand created by people who will pay extra money just to have it “right now!”. Since when did gun owners turn into game console or Apple type fanatics?

When the government started banning everything left right and centre. Been under a rock the past few years?

You should do us all a favour and just move along now instead of #####ing in this thread about what people are doing with their guns.

Pretty easy to tell who the “scalpers’ are around here! Lol
In 5 years or so when you can’t buy these from the dealers anymore is when we will see what the market price for these will be
They will most definitely go up in price but how much is anyone’s guess
Maybe I’ll buy a blued one next shipment to tuck away for a rainy day

I may have to do this too because I shoot off a bench and that bipod is way too high for bench shooting.
I suspect it would also chew your bag up if that’s what your using for a rest and leave a bunch off plastic pellets leaking everywhere.

It's finished metal, pretty sturdy and not jagged. No difference from resting off of the cleaning rod, actually it would be more stable than the latter imo. It's also not that high when folded but one thing I don't like is that it swivels left and right a bit.

Mine goes to 1 - 3 - 4 - 5. I’ve discovered it helps to press the back of the sight down to relate tension while rotating.

At “3” my left drum shows “6” so my guess is that’s the trajectory
