After a long time away from both firearms and hunting I am getting back into it hard and heavy. These are the guns I want to buy before 2008 is done. I already have put the 700 BDL .300 RUM on the hold. The others will need to be special ordered and tracked down; going to be a huge pain I'm sure. Many of you will think I should go for a synthetic and not a laminate stock on my mountain rifle I'm sure but I just really dislike the look and feel of black plastic guns so I'll carry the extra pound and a half.

Browning BAR ShortTrac,.308 Win - Fair weather all around hunter

Ruger M77 Mark II .25-06 Rem (Black Laminate, Stainless Steel) - Mountain Hunting ---> Sheep & Goat; foul weather deer rifle

Remington Model 700 BDL .300 RUM -Big Game Gun - Moose, Grizzly, Bison (I can dream)

Ruger No.1 International .30-06 - All around backup or whenever I feel like it gun

Browning A-Bolt Hunter .223 Rem - Coyote/Small Predator Hunter
OR
Tikka T3 Hunter (Walnut Stock) .22-250 Rem - Coyote/Small Predator Hunter

Remington Model 700 CDL 7mm Rem Mag - Long Range Plains Hunter
OR
Tikka T3 Hunter (Walnut Stock) 7mm Rem Mag - Long Range Plains Hunter

Any thoughts on the 2 I'm undecided on? All comments welcome.

Just one in 2008....

For 2008 I'm thinking a Tikka T3 in .260 Rem would do me fine...

Mountain goats are tough and the ground that you find them on is unforgiving. You need to anchor them so they don't launch themselves off a cliff! I think that the 25.06 would be marginal for that!

buy a stainless laminate 30-06, top it with a Swarovski 3-10x42, and spend the rest of the money you were going to spend on rifles, on a trip to Africa to hunt plains game or use it to buy fuel for trips all over BC for the next ten years

How about I buy all the guns and take a trip to Africa within the next few years?

tikka. despite the plastic parts, I like em better than an Abolt, and they're a bit cheaper too. Also faster twist barrel in 223 which is nice, lets you shoot heavier bullets if you so desire

OK, this has got me thinking ,just for fun, if you where going to recommend just one rifle for me what Make, model ,cal and set-up would it be? The gun could/would be used for hunting deer, moose, elk, bear, sheep and goat. Remember I'm lefty so options are a lot more limited. The gun also needs to look nice cause.........well just because. Keep it under 2K with a scope and mods........what ya got bartell?

LH 700 Remington 30/06 with a Bansner stock and a 2.5x8 Leupold in Talley LWs.

280 would be my second choice, but that would require a custom bbl on a LH action.

If you handle one you will find out these are heavy guns, less than ideal for mountain hunting. Just an observation!
