I don't think its worth it personally. Deer are colour blind. They see orange as grey, so why not wear grey pants? Then essentially you're just a grey blob. Stand next to some poplar trees and bam, invisible.

I was squatting on the ground this year in some twiggy brush and was eye level with a doe. She came up 30 feet up to me and I don't think she ever saw me.

Your greatest asset is hunting the wind, I think camo is just a way to separate you from your money

Exactly. Anyone who thinks camo is helping them tag deer is a victim of marketing hype. Interestingly enough, I have zero issue stalking deer within 20-30 yards while wearing head to toe blaze orange during the controlled hunt.

I do wear camo during bow season, but that's only because I hunt public land and prefer to stay hidden from other hunters. It's annoying when others spot you and are hunting "my spot" next time I go out.

Exactly my thoughts as well.

Just because deer are colour blind does not make camo useless. Breaking up your pattern is helpful for most hunting situations. That can be done with things other than camo, but camo will never hurt your hunting. That is why plaid works well, it breaks up your body to make it blend better. Most quality outdoor hunting clothes are camo now anyway, so it gets harder to find good warm quiet clothing that isn't camo.

There is little downside to it, other than cost, but that is minor anymore since most hunting stuff is made in camo.

Certainly isn't necessary to kill animals. But again will never hurt your hunting and blending into your surroundings is a definite step up in your hunting game. There will always be exceptions, but overall you will see more game the better you can blend in. Camo can be a big part of that. Along with scent control and limiting movement.

purchase links?

There is some more info on it in Camopedia the Wiki of Camo. Apparenty Czechs ended up with the Germans camo printing machines after WWII.

The splinter stuff is from the early 60s to 80s.

The notes say that its best close up as at a distance the pattern fades out and wearer is just a solid dark color.

Got mine free but you got me curious and I looked online.

Trick is that some call it vz 60 or M60 others vz 63 or M63

Oddly enough there is a place in Canada (east of GTA) that has early and current (vz 95) czech camo and gear.

Hero Outdoors. Not sure of the condition. Have not done business with them before either.

Agreed, playing the wind and learning how to sit still and be quiet will give more results than what you’re wearing but camo definitely won’t hurt your chances while sitting or still hunting. Take advantage of any tool available to you.

Should be a poll asking.......

Learn to sit still and not fart, you'll improve your odds better than by wearing camo. ;)

Nonsense, my farts sounds just like a buck grunting!

As to the question, I wear camo about as much as I don’t. I was a longtime waterfowler and while I don’t hunt the ducks much these days I still have a mishmash of various camo’s under the stairs so why not use it. I don’t think it helps at all for big game, maybe if you where bow hunting? Sitting still and learning to fart like a buck grunts will greatly improve your success over camo!

Plenty of guys and girls here in Alberta drop deer every season dressed in blue oil field covies with high vis stripes on them lol and blues supposed to be the worst lol.

of course there are. and lots of smokers sitting in a tree stand manage to shoot deer as well. But neither of those things help you. If your far enough away probably doesn't make much difference. But hunt in the ontario bush where your lucky to see anything further away than 50 yards and you will see more animals if your not smoking and not wearing blue coveralls.

There are always exceptions, doesn't mean there aren't better ways.

The blue doesn't become a factor when said people are shootinf at the deer from their idling diesel truck in the middle of the road with a timmies cup in one hand. :D

I still-hunt in the thick timber of the foothills , wool pants and buffalo plaid jacket , 2 for 2 this season , can guarantee you the thick timber here is just as thick as your Ontario bush. No camo , no deer piss on me , no scent killing sprays or anything. I eat a cut lunch and drink coffee from my thermos. Camo doesn’t make one lick of difference if you know what you’re doing.
Maybe it’s just the build up of old deer hair and blood on my jacket that makes them think I’m one of them and stops them detecting me...

Plaid is actually a very good camo, so I would disagree with your arguement that camo does absolutely nothing.

Camo is overrated except when your hunting open country with snow. Wearing winter whites make all the difference

If you believe that, then you believe in camo... it is a sliding scale X to Y... from the least disparity (blue jeans and Carhartt in alder brush etc) to the greatest disparity (black snowsuit on snow)... if camo works in the greatest disparity scenario, then it also works in the least disparity scenario... just to a lesser degree... but it does help to some degree... personally, I will take advantage of camo most of the time, no matter how small the benefit.
