CCI Stnd Vel - Cheap and Accurate

I've found that Federal Champion SV and Fed Gold Medal SV are pretty good also, about as good as CCI-SV but not as good as the SK+. This is in my Savage-64, Marlin-60 and Savage B-22. All three keep under 1" and the B-22 and Marlin keep knockin on the 3/4 > 1/2" door, just a few fliers that are probably me. And here in NB it's hard to have a calm day this Fall.
I bought 2K rounds of the Champion when I found my LGS had it for just under $3/bx and I also got 1K of the CCI-SV in cardboard bxs for about $4. Cleaned him out of those brands. He sells the SK+ for about $9+tx so I haven't bought a lot of that - Almost out. The Fed GM was about $6/bx when I bought some a couple years ago (I think in Halifax), but I haven't seen any for a while.
Gaderite, you're right to say stock up, the local BassPro is almost bare shelves for all cals of rifle. I need to hit the LGS again before he runs low.

Using the Cooper JSR today at 100 yards and fouled the bore with some CenterX Lot 28###. Two 5-shot groups measured 1.43 and 1.29.
Switched to lot #27### and the groups measured 1.20, 1.67, 1.85, 0.79 and 0.98.
Switched to CCI SV and the groups were 1.40, 0.83 and 1.36. This was Paper Box.
Back to Lot #27### and the groups were 1.16, 2.80, 1.24, 1.96 and 1.35
That 2.80 was a first shot high and the second was lot; Pretty hard to call two shots a group . . . LOL.
Conditions were calm and temp about 7 degrees.

Still have not found the Lapua that compares to the test results.

So the CCI SV 50 did well? Cheap and accurate?

My old Savage BSEV likes the CCI Standard Velocity the most. My Savage B22 precision with the MDT stock has the same preference. It shoots as good as the SK standard plus, the Eley and the Aguilla. The only things that seems a little better is the CCI Green Box, which I understand is essentially CCI Standard Velocity, sorted at the factory (or something like that). It's hard to find and the accuracy difference is not sufficient to warrant the extra price since my wife and I do not compete and just plink at 100 yards with these guns.

I enjoy reading posts like this, I went and picked up a pack of the CCI and went to the range on Friday with it. My accuracy increased quite a bit using it compared to the Federal ammo bulk I had purchased. Personally I am going to keep trying different ammo as suggested by threads such as these and see what improvements I see.

Will also be looking at getting involved in the Outlaw Rimfire series............

You and I are lucky to have found a cheap ammo that shoots well in our rifle. each rifle is different.

It could be worse, you know. You might test a lot of ammo and found that your rifle won't perform with anything.

or worse, you find it only shoots well if the ammo is $25 a box.

If you like the CCI SV results, go back to the store and buy another brick or 2 (or more) of the same stuff.

Two reasons: A different lot # might not do as well and we will soon have a year long drought of ammo. Stock up while you can.

I tested another rifle and found that the really cheap ($4.50) Aguila SV did almost as well as the CCI. I intend to go back and buy a couple bricks of it.

You might try SK Flatnose basic. My local Cabella's had it on for $6.49 / 50. More accurate than Eley HV HP, SK Std plus and RWS Target Rifle in my CZ453 at 50 meters. Also a bit better than CCI Std V.

You folks are lucky to have such a great selection of types and brands. The local selection is pretty basic in the area I live.

Don't get me wrong, the offerings are adequate. They have ammo from a couple of manufacturers, such as Federal/Aguila/CCI and maybe a couple of others, such as Eley. They bring in what they can sell and have room for on their shelves.

The shops in BC's interior also suffer from a lack of population to give them more incentive to carry ammo with marginal demand. Most folks here, are like they are everywhere and just buy the cheapest ammo on the shelf, without even realizing there might be a real difference.

Just order a variety to try. It's worth it.

Site sponsor Tesro sells different grades of sample packs which will usually show a preference for your rifle. Great way to find what works

I shot a 10rnd group measuring 1.19” (1.17MOA)@89M today with my Savage Mk2 and CCI SV. Best one so far. Usually around 2 1/4”, but it was pretty calm and I tried a bit harder today.

Enjoyed following this thread!

CCI SV's is the "best" ammo I have and it's reserved for my 2 favourite bolts (Savage MKII TR and an S&L). Both get decent groups but the S&L does a bit better. I bought a few bricks of the same lot a few years ago. My only regret now is that I didn't buy more of it.

I have a bunch of other brands (Blazer, Federal, Win, etc) purchased months ago when on sale. They get used specifically in my plinkers when clover groups aren't required.

They one thing that has surprised me is some are reporting decent accuracy with semi's(rifles). I haven't owned one in years. May have to reconsider.....

Ganderite, How does your new Savage A22 compare to your Ruger 1022? I have two Savage A22's, a Precision and one with the plastic stock. Both shoot under an inch at 100 yards using CCI standard velocity. Much more reliable than my Ruger 1022 and way easier to clean.

Consistently or on occasion under an inch with CCI SV at 100 yards? If it's consistently, that is quite incredible.

I shoot CCI Standard as my best ammo. in a Match rifle. Get dime groups @ 50 yds. when I do my part. Last year I bought
Sterling Cross S.V. from Canadaammo @ $30./ 500, going 1130 f/s. It has the "A" (Aguila) headstamp. That velocity is the
sme as Aguila SV. So it must be Aguila repackaged into Sterling Cross boxes? It shoots 100% as accurate as CCI Standard.
In the end I bought 3 CASES ( 15,000.) rnds. Good thing as they have no more. Works good in SA handguns too.
Watch for it , if it comes back.
