Hey gents, would anything on paper suggest the kimber montana 7-08 barrels would prefer the heavier projectiles by any chance?

since shooting a few 162s thru mine, an previously only shooting about 2 boxes of 150gr blue box Federals initially, ive only ever shot 120gr ,139gr and 140gr projectiles and in all the development ive never seen a group as the intial 162 load showed potential to be a moa load, most have hovered around 1.3-1.5 inch and im normally happy.. 2+ and its back to drawing boards..

has anyone else had the heavier projectiles favoured in their kimbers?

or may it just be a good stroke of luck on the powder and projectile combined with speed to equal accuracy as a whole?

keen to know as i sort of just started thinking that perhaps the accuracy side of this gun is in the heavy spectrum... (162sst) and Varget doing a good job?... and i rekon with seating depth alterations it could be a good decent load, an i wouldnt see a reason to own the 7 rem mag to be honest, for 500m with the Tactical Vortex on Kimber...seems legit?

Have you considered H 4350?

I use a 150 ELD-X for steel and offhand practice and a 150 Nosler AccuBond for hunting, both are good for hunting.

44 gns gets 2600 ft/s in the 20" Steyr barrel with the ELD-X, a bit more powder for the Nosler for the same velocity.

H-4350 model well in QL with the 140 and up bullets.

I have not fussed with seating depth, COL is for magazine length only, will hold 3 shots ~0.6 moa at distance, tune with powder charge.

bit of an interesting one, i pulled some of the last 120gr Sierra rounds out and reweighed then recharged them at 40gr, these were not really tooo consistant i dont rekon and reason being (i was proberly throwing them direct from lee thrower back then /few yrs ago) so that would explain to me... now days im alot more precise, weigh every load etc..

So i got even charges and seated in 162 SSTs in 3 different depths initially, however- we ran into mag length isses, but before that we couldnt load em in the Breech ha ha-
so they are seated to "mag length" which happens to be around 71mm (71.5mm) off top of head, and isnt compressing the powder which im happy with...

the difference between last test with the SST in 7-08 is these are resized 308 PPU brasses........ could change things a bit.

keen to shoot em up tomorow- let yas know

hey Brad out of interest whats ya mag length measurement? much over 2.800?

Have you tried 150 grain sierra gamekings. I've had good accuracy with them in my 7-08 and my 284win.

nah pete no other 150 apart from factory blue box federals? thin kthey had a speer at one point maybe?
i will see how 162 goes but think the 150gr is where it might be at for 150 sleek projies, like the 154 sst or something along those lines, i think Sierra gamekings are hard to source at the moment!
wll look into it pending sst outcomes
