Antelope by the dozens...

another thought was having something mounted on the trains that emit a sound that the animals can hear at a higher pitch when the train is moving at a certain speed. that would get them off the tracks and out of danger.

You ever hear a locomotive, close up ? Not the family car. :(

Grizz

The Port of Vancouver have told the Freighters to slow down leaving the harbour and the straight on the coast to help the killer whales so why can't the trains slow down in certain areas.

Lol.

Want to pay double for freight? There is wildlife along almost every mile of the railroads that cross Canada.

Find out how many grizzlies are killed by trains every year. Let me know the number, if you ever find out the truth.

PS - I'm not saying anything should be done about the grizzlies being killed on the tracks, I just don't want CP to have the monopoly grizzly population control. I'd like a tag to hunt them next year.

PPS - CP is not an ordinary corp. They have their own police force, which should tell you how far you'll get on your fact finding adventure.

Well, it’s in mainstream media now. It’s all being investigated. I suspect the guy who made that stupid video is done. I also agree there has to be a solution somewhere if people put their heads to it. It will come down to cost unfortunately.

Ban Antelope, or trains. Better yet just ban more guns that seems to be the only tool in the governments toolbox.

The power of railways is a good example of what happens when private companies are given huge power in return for some investment without thinking long term. Isn’t Mosaic’s control of land on VI from a railway agreement in times past?

Railways even have their own armed police forces and don't hesitate to pass out tickets. Get in an accident with a train, it's your fault, Period and you're responsible for any damages. Goes back to the days of Confederation, they're a law onto themselves.

True. Unless you are that special class of persons that can blockade a main rail line zero consequences.
Apparently this private armed police force only fines/confronts soft targets.

Well I don't know how you could ever get into an accident with a train that wasn't your fault, so I don't have an issue with that.
They do however love to sit at rail crossings around here and give out speeding tickets if you travel over their rail property above the speed limit.

i mean.. if its a crossing you go thru everyday , and by chance the rail lights don't flash, or the arm doesn't come down.. and you get hit , it would probably not be your fault you drove thru it just like every other day the rail arms where up. surely it would be a case between your insurance provider and the rail company though

Butcherbill,

CP has made safe crossings for vehicles and pedestrians since the rail was built. Wildlife is apparently of no concern to them

humans are slightly easier to deal with as we follow signs and are smart enough to not try to outrun a train. (well most of us are).
Deer get hit by vehicles on the highways all the time, so are you going to stop driving?

They certainly could do something, but it all comes at a cost and just wait for the complaining when costs of stuff go up because they somehow put animal control on thousands of miles of rail track. Its just not practical.

I'm not saying every mile across Canada. This isn't about grizzlies or moose. This is about a HERD of antelope. It's not acceptable. I don't care if they are not an ordinary corp. If they can afford their own police force they can afford to do something about it. Maybe figure out what areas are of concern and patrol the tracks with their so called police force, give them some exercise they probably don't do much anyway. lol

The first time ever I seen a photo local fatality railway scene was during my years in Moose Jaw. Some poor homeless guy cut in half by a train. That had to have been leaked by thier own private police force.
Not very professional by any standard.

Some nice jokester pinned it up in the neighbourhood grocery buy and sell cork board.
