Lets start this one from the top. So I am a new hunter and this was my first deer season. So what I am looking for is input from all of you guys who have been doing this for years.
So neither my friend (who is also a new hunter) or myself know anyone who will let us hunt on their property so we located some crown land in 64A and took a few days off work to go and give it a shot. The first two days were great we didnt get anything, infact we didnt even see anything, but that didnt matter as we were having a great time just enjoying the outdoors.
We located a clearing on the first day out that would be a good place to set up some blinds and that is what we did on Friday. We didnt get anything but we thought we had a good location. So we got up a 4:30 again on saturday this time I set up in a corner and my friend voluntered to push the bush and see if we could make them come to us.
OK enter the other people. Atleast 5 guys walked into the field we were working. OK no problem it's crown land they have as much right as I do to be there. So I came out of my hide and waved, they ignored me. My assumption was that we would have a quick chat so that we could work the same area. So these guys not only ignore me but they are now down range. (In my shooting zone) The first thing I learned this week is that 25-30ft into the bush and hunter orange disappears. I was using a 308win that will have a killing range of over a kilometer easy.
We had setup a decoy as someone had suggested it could help. Well the decoy now has a hole in its ass. Atleast one of these goof balls started blasting away. I hit the dirt. Am I being unreasonable???? Should they not have come to talk to me? I was there first. What's more they dont know how many of us there were or where we are(Likewise is true aswell). This entire incident stank of friendly fire. I just packed up my stuff and got the hell out of Dodge. I dont want to be around people like that with high powered rifles.
Please let me know your thoughts as I consider this entire situation to be unsafe and probably the act of a few "rednecks." However, if this is standard practice in the hunting community then maybe I need to re-evaluate my participation in this sport.
Thanks.
