300 PRC and other 30 Cal Cartridges

I've been shooting a 300 rum for almost 20 years. Next fall will be 20 years with the cartridge for me. It absolutely torches barrels. I have a 3.825" mag box which is still kind of short. I think when this newest barrel is torched I'll be making the switch to the 300 PRC. Mostly for barrel life.

A friend is building a match rifle in 300 PRC and just ordered ADI brass. $160.00 per 50 for ADI brass!! That is a bit much!!

Tell him to give Gary at Bighorn sales a call in Houston BC..I'm pretty sure it was around 125.00 /50count in the summer

If I'm going to do something other than my 300 WM, I think it will be a 30-338 Lapua Improved shooting the 250gr A-Tip. 28 or 30" barrel. Go big or go home :p.

That would be awesome but spending that much at the range wouldn't leave enough to pay for my home.
Don't get me wrong. Wicked setup but just too darn expensive to shoot steel with.

Wyatt's Outdoor CFE-9

Ah HA ! Thanks ! me and Hawk-I are a little blind ! RJ

CFE-9 Kit
$79.50 USD

The CFE-9 is our longest internal box. It is a center feed design which allows a cartridge overall length of 4.000″. This box only works with magnum cartridges and will not play well with standard cartridge diameters. The kit consists of the box, follower, and spring. Modifications to the receiver, bolt stop, and stock will be required. CAUTION: MOST CLONE ACTIONS WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS BOX.

yeap, I was blind..lol :)

I had a 300 RUM and sold it for the 300prc. I have found it the easiest cartridge to load for out of my many rifles. It’s a do all rifle. Great hunting cartridge and very good at ringing steel way out there

If using the 3.825" mag well and the 3.825" follower it will hit the top lip of the factory bottom metal and limit you to only 2 rounds.

I've got a 300 PRC Precision rifle. It's a great long range precision cartridge and I'm sure it would be an excellent 300 magnum hunting cartridge.

If I ever decide to build another .300 hunting rifle, the PRC would be at the top of the list, assuming I didn't want a short action.

If you don't hinder the 300WM with its 3.340 mag length then it and the 300prc are pretty much the same performance wise

Good luck seating the 230 A tip or the 245 grainers in a Rum.The ogive will be down in the neck with out 4 inch mag box and even with it you will be seated well into the powder column. That is why the PRC was developed.A little more thought went into the development of the PRC than Remington did with the Rum.They justed ripped off the idea from the Imperial magnum when they were approached to make brass for them.Plus there were not any long high bc bullets when it was developed.
