Tagged out yesterday for 2020 wolf/coyote tags. I've been calling a long time and yesterday it finally came together for my goal of the top dog around here.
My brother and I set up on a long narrow lake with the wind in our faces and the foxpro between us. After 2 mins of flying squirrel sounds on low I switched to Harry Woodpecker distress and let that go for about 3 mins before a short pause then a switch to Snowshoe 1 on full blast with foxfade going.
I had been watching the far end of the lake and after ranging a few locations for known distances I noticed something new down there and after a quick glass I confirmed 3 wolves had come out onto the lake at 800yds.
I signaled the backup shooter to get his trigger finger thawed out and when I looked back down the lake all 3 were charging down the shore at full gallop. I arranged my shooting sticks in that direction and got settled. In no time at all the big male was inside 200 and the black one and the other tawny were moving into the middle of the lake at 300 and 400 respectively. Right at 100 the leader stopped and started to head towards shore knowing something wasn't right.

You can see where both wolves are in the pic and they came out on the shore on the right and moved down towards us.
When the big guy slowed down at 100yd I hit him with the 223 75gr Hornady BTHP and he dropped. At that the black one started running and my brother stopped him with a well placed 143gr ELD-X at 310yd. The third one took off at warp speed and didn't catch any hopeful lead sent in his direction.

The tawny one is a nice male and the black one was a smaller female.
I'm shooting a Tikka CTR 223 with a NF NX8 2.5-20 MIL-XT
and my brother is shooting a CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor with a Leupold VX-2 6-18 LRV.
I'm out of wolf/coyote tags just in time for the 2021 season.
