Purchasing air rifles in odd places

Since the firearms restrictions imposed upon responsible gun owners in Canada, where their prized rifle or pistol of choice has to be handed over without any reimbursement, I am finding that the lesser powered armory like pellet guns are being pawned off at local pawn shops betting on something back for there investment rather than having to just hand it over to your local gun shop

Yesterday I brought two rifles

Diana 24 with the T04 trigger .177 450fps scoped with a Center Point 3-9 x 32, non parallax adjustment, Condition is brand new but not boxed for $130

Crossman F11 .22 with two stage trigger, nitro piston, ambidextrous synthetic pistol grip stock came with a scope: Stoager airguns 3-9 40ao with front parallax adjustment again brand new, not boxed 450fps $120

Im not trying to sell the guns here just giving you a comparison to on online list pricing, as a responsible shooter I will make sure they are of the legal limit by having them tested at the gun shop, If they are over the limit they will be handed over (cringe)

I haven't shot them yet till they are given the all clear, so cant comment on their performance

Why don't you get your pal and not have to worry about if a gun is over the 495 fps? Plus you mentioned in another thread that if you got your pal you would maybe look at a .22 rimfire. It's no big deal to get a pal .

I will do so when this Covid thing passes and the Gun range has reopened without restrictions imposed upon it. Till then I will abide by what I can do no matter how hard it is to keep from pulling those triggers

Your best to find a course and get on the list. With this last year being so screwed up just about every PAL course is booked up for months. Get on a waiting list or you'll be waiting a very very long time.

I am quite confident both rifles are within the limits, I dont think pawn shops are allowed to sell guns over without a PAL and any responsible owner would sell a gun over the limit to anyone that visits a pawn shop

I don't get you, you don't know what the laws are I presume, you don't hand over guns to the govn't , you don't buy them in the first place if over 500 f/s, and the shop is the one on the hook. But if you bought them without a PAL, they "must " be under the limit ,Right?
You/ they can sell/ give to some one with a Pal or RPAL.
In the 1990's guys that where worried about "lossing" there short barrel a,d 25 and 32 cal where selling for pennies on the $, or just handing them into the police because they did not know the laws , Than later wondering why they did what they did. It is going on again, thou everyone seems to want new price for used stuff

Shooting is one of the safest sports because it is played by responsible shooters whos rules of shooting are not taken lightly, my task right now is to show that I am able to be patient and just look at this as a precursor to safe shooting/training and PAL acquisition

Do I sound overly cautious when it comes to gun safety? if so, good, as my actions with any firearm I own is also reflective of every single gun owner in Canada, I will give the results of the tests when I get the guns back later

The Diana 24 air rilfes sold in Canada have been non-PAL airguns -- that is, less than 500 fps.

The Crosman F11 .22 nitro piston air rifle is sold at Canadian Tire as a non-PAL airgun.

The only way a gun shop can determine if these air rifles are non-PAL is to shoot them over a chronograph.

Man they are pellet guns. Most kids get them around the age of 8 or 9 and do fine. Take them out and shoot them responsibly and where they are allowed . Dont worry about getting them testing or any of that crap. Just use a heavy pellet if your worried, although im not sure why you would be.

Reading your posts it almost seems you want them to be over 500fps so you can run to the police station and get them turned in and you think you will be a hero at the local station

The RCMP aren't going to magically rappel into your backyard and shoot your dog if you shoot a pellet gun and the little piece of metal inside it goes over 450 fps. We haven't gotten to that level of surveillance and incursion yet (despite PM Sockboy's best efforts). Keep in mind that the RC's can't even stop their members from losing sensitive information in parking lots, notice that their CI's are stockpiling weapons for mass murders, or even prevent rapes in their own ranks.

As usual your best bet is, in the words of the wisest lawyer I know: "Shut the ##### up" and not tell anyone. It's on the pawn shop, not you, and why you would go test it and open yourself up to anything is beyond me. Sounds like you've really internalized Trudy's goal of turning this country into a bunch of good boy subservient citizen cucks. There's an alternative to living your life as a government fluffer.

Im from England and joined this forum to learn your laws in this Country prior to acquiring a PAL, I cant have a PAL until the restrictions of covid 19 has been lifted, I am fully aware of gun safety regardless of what Country Im in and have plenty of common sense when it comes to buying a firearm but it does not mean I understand why a pawnshop would sell a rifle not knowing its power, I brought the rifles with every intent to have them tested, Im sure the sale of a firearm in pawnshops is fine and legal as I was never asked for a PAL, If asked I would not have brought, besides, if the previous owner(s) had modified the guns would it not be prudent to think they declared it can only be sold a PAL rifle, thats the responsible thing to do is it not?

Would it not be better to know for sure rather than run the risk owning a firearm of unknown power

If they are over then so be it, its a small price to pay to keep the integrity of shooting sports, if they are fine and I am inclined to think they are then Im in plinking away till my hearts content

I also checked online before buying both rifles the FPS if I was to buy one at retail

I would love a PAL rifle, Im more inclined to keep the peace and avoid having to deal with the police, Im not worried about shooting these guns, I want to know there power, its a geek thing I suppose, I will have proof so if I sell them down the road im not asking the same questions someone else will ask I now
