Was just thinking with Remington going out of business that the 870 police will no longer be available for law enforcement. I’m just wondering if this will be good news for Mossberg or what other shotgun may take its place?

Remington was broken up and sold to 7 different companies. According to a Sept 2020 news article: "Roundhill Group LLC bought everything firearms that is non-Marlin". Ruger purchased Marlin.

According to The Truth About Guns, Oct 09,2020:“As is known, Roundhill Group LLC and a group of experienced firearms manufacturing and hunting industry professionals are in the process of purchasing Remington Firearms. Our intent with this acquisition is to return the company to its traditional place as an iconic American hunting brand. We intend to maintain, care for and nurture the brand and all of the dedicated employees who have crafted these products over the years for outdoorsmen and women both here in the USA and abroad. More than anything, we want to make Remington a household name that is spoken with pride.”

Yeah I wouldn’t worry. We don’t wear these things out very fast. We have a couple that are at least 30 years old and they work like new. Better than new.

Within the next 10 yrs.most police firearms in Canada will say Nerf on the side.

I don't understand. Police are getting the best, latest, most efficient guns to control dangerous honest citizens.
Nerf guns would make police much safer (from themselves) but aren't really very effective when they want to kill people.

Being Government Agencies, and based on past experience with the psychology of such organizations, I can see the shotgun being done away with. They require regular training to remain competent, and are seen as a hold over from the past. Additionally, they kick and are harder for smaller statured males and pretty much all female officers to operate. When the transition to the AR is complete, the shotgun will fade from general use, like the revolver. The fact that they're more flexible, cheaper, safer in urban settings, and fill an entirely different niche will be discounted by bureaucrats many of whom have never held, fired or carried one. Once they "wear out" they'll be done.

The old Remmy 870 police shotguns are built like tanks and will be dug up 1000 years from now after this civilization has gone the way of the dodo - and they will still work and fire.

Completely agree. Yet they used to turn them in regularly for new. I have three LE trade ins. A S&W 3000, Mossberg 500 amd 870 Wingmaster. They likely turned in the blued Wingmaster so they could get new Police models with that tactical parkerizing. LOL

What are the chances of a department or agency ever making a large order of pump shotguns again?

My old LE trade-in Wingmaster is probably the most reliable firearm I own. It's got a tiny bit of corrosion on the outside of the barrel, but it cycles everything whether I clean it or not.

I'd still take a Ithaca 37 any day.

That's probably my top pick for a personal pump shotgun, but I don't know if I'd want one in the policing context of constantly being issued them at random from a poorly maintained inventory.
