You don't have to pay people to pimp their favorites... they just naturally do... whether it is a product or a method or an ideology... human nature being what it is.

I'll stick to calibers I can actually buy. Why limit yourself to overpriced under produced cartridges?. I don't much care for the "superior ballistics" if I can't buy them . We are heading into a "Dark Winter" of a lot of things, Ammunition supply being one of them. If things go down the pan in the US you can bet ammo supplies will dry up pretty quickly. No drama intended and I hate speculation as much as the next Man, but reality I can deal with, as I see it anyway.

I am all for advances in ballistics, but a whole lot of "flashy" cartridges have been introduced over the last 20 or so years, and I can count one hand those that have been worthwhile owning. But, I guess if it means keeping the gun industry afloat and their shareholders happy, why not. Personally, I much prefer the classics, including the deadly 7mm Brenneke and 280 Remington.

.308 Win/7.62X51, 5.56X45/.223 Rem, 7.62X39, 9X19, .22LR, 6.5X55, .45ACP. Yes all popular and easy to find, for now. Plus reload for other high use types, .357 Mag, .38 SPL, and all of the above mentioned. You should stock up on powder, primers and bullets or get into casting your own. Brass I have in the thousands. All easy to find items, like I said, for now!.

While I dont think I will be getting one, I do see a parallel of the 6.8 Western to the 6.5 Creedmoor. Who wouldve thought that the 6.5 creedmoor could succeed when the 260 Remington and 6.5x55 already existed? Very similar performance between the three rounds, but through aggressive marketing (and rating the 6.5CM at higher pressure to show it could beat the others) it became a success - as evidenced by the number of hunters who buy it, not just competition use. Take the 6.8Western, shoulder bumped back to make use of the new high BC bullets, show how it outperforms the 6.5CM AND sell it as the deadlier alternative to the puny wimpy dimunitive 6.5CM and Winchester might be able to make a go of it. Or it could fade into obscurity. Time will tell. I for one am very excited about the new projectiles in the .277 class - it'll be interesting to see what can be stabilised in a standard twist 270Win.

I hope Weatherby is paying attention here. They have been heavily involved in the 6.5 game but a fast twist 1-7.5" or 1-8" 270 Wby Mag in a Vanguard would be an awesome setup. Their Long Action is built to handle up to 300wby and 375 H&H so OAL wouldn't be an issue.
