Hey folks looking for a ballpark value on a first gen Vanguard in 25-06, rifle belongs to a buddy and want to make him a offer. I don't have any pics but its just a reg Vanguard with blued barrel and dark grey weatherby stock
The Vanguard line was introduced in 1970, if my memory serves me well they didn’t have synthetic stocks, are you sure it’s a first gen?

You can generally find new vanguard s2's for under $700 before taxes so $500 is top dollar for that rifle imho.
Hey Nomad where have you seen the S2 below $700? Feel free to PM me

Lot's of Models are deeply discounted by the manufactures to justify the price they have now set for their newest model. The difference price between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Vanguards was approx $130.00 that was including the discounted close out price.
In the early 2000's Ruger discontinued the Stainless M77 MKII with the Zytel Stock (boat paddle) . They could be purchased for under $500.00, currently sell for closer to a thousand. In the mid 70's 303 motorized Lee Enfields sold for $25.00 to $30.00 . Swedish Mausers matching numbers were $45.00 to $70.00 through out the 80's.
What a firearm was purchased for at closeout, has no relevancy to current market value .
New Plain Vanguards are advertised from $759.00 to $849.00
You don't find many used Gen 2 listed for less then $650 or Gen 1 for $500.00 because at those prices they sell very quickly.
A Gen 1 at $550.00 is a good deal.
