This is an initial impression of the m10x short handguard vs the type 81.
Since I couldn't find an sks-d i bought a type 81 folder and an m10x short handguard.
If I were to see them side by side at a gun store the m10x would have been coming home with me.
Quality wise, fit and finish and ergonomics goes to the m10x hands down.
The m10x short handguard doesn't feel any heavier, even the stories of being nose heavier doesn't apply.
Seems like a lighter profile barrel over the initial release and even the charging handle is different than everything I've seen on internet, instead 0f pushing a button and popping it out you twist a knob, then push it in to pull it out.
The type 81 feels like it's $1000 cheaper. I will be accuracy and functionality testing both. I'm still not biased either way; however, everyone in my household that handled both gives the nod to the m10x.
I will update once I have the chance to shoot

The Type 81SA is like a $500 (if that) gun being sold for $1000.

Anything the M10x looses to the Type 81 is pretty much a huge fail on MMs part.

Its like comparing a super overpriced VW Beetle to what should be a BMW in theory. Still an interesting and valid comparison to make regardless.

I think so, they are both the same caliber, ak style being sold for basically the same price , 1900-2200ish.

I would be very curious how a bone stock Russian SKS in good condition stacks up against these two in terms of accuracy and usability. It is an old design, not quite suitable for optics, but...

On Reddit, someone mentioned that 7.63x39 ARs that had problems with lacquered, steel case surplus ammo could function if every fifth or tenth round was a brass round. Somehow, the detritus from the surplus that caused trouble in the AR would be impressed into the surface of the softer brass casing, causing the chamber to be cleaned when the brass was ejected. I would be curious if this would help with the M10x, should the poster's rifle have trouble with surplus ammo.

Going to give it a shot next weekend with old surplus

Does your M10x have a set screw under the handguard just in front of the front pivot screw? I believe it’s intended to take up the slack between the barreled action and the upper receiver cover/handguard (where of course the optics are mounted) and when tight should improve accuracy.

That’s the theory anyways and something to consider when you do your accuracy testing.

Also, what types of ammo are you planning to test?

Yes for ur accuracy test, i highly recommend u try some Hornady SST ammo. Many consider it to be the most accurate 7.62x39mm ammo off the shelf.

no... dont tell me you paid that for a T81 rifle?

i still get myself to pay more for less of the previous M10x, less handguard and thinner barrel. marketing at its very best.

when the t81 was in store it was not a $2000 ak style rifle or i had a bargain on it lol .. but i agree it is a $500 worth gun ...

the m10x was not intended to be release for $2000 ish on our market as well but seems north sylva sees the light and tried it ...

Its not a secret, type 81's sold for $1000 plus tax, but now that you can't get them from TI they are selling for $1800-2200
Simple supply and demand.
I don't think they are worth that, but if you want one that's what you will be paying.

If Marty Mckfly told me tomorrow that not ONE SINGLE shipment of Type 81SAs would EVER enter Canada again after 2021. And VZ 58s would never become un banned... i would dish out 2.2k for a Type 81. Novelty can sometimes have immense value ! Valmet rifles are proof of that.

I'm sure this ^^^ is exactly why they are selling for those prices .. if by some remote chance there is one last shipment, which I honestly doubt, those shipments sell out very fast anyway, people who are fast and have $ will buy 5 or 10 to flip here on ee for 2k. I truly hope the ban gets overturned, but I've never seen a prohib or banned gun become allowed again. Fingers crossed though.

Ferari looks good, will you take it to the mud? I would trust T81-it never failed me after 1000+ rounds. I would never trust my life on M+M M10x. I have to admit, M10x looks and feels very nice before you start shooting... it is like that super nice looking lady who is just like a broomstick after lights are turned off....

too bad i cant "short" a T81 at $2000, like i can on a stock market. i bet there is a shipment coming and TI already told us the new price is $1200.

Haha love the analogy, I wouldn't trust either with my life, I have better for that :)

I probably won't shoot either one enough to see which breaks first, i am also not going to mount a scope on the m10... just iron sights vs iron sights. That's the fairest way.

$1200 plus tax and shipping, so $1400-1500 by the time it gets to you.... only if some little 3rd world country places a massive order and TI gets some.
The world economy is bad for everyone right now. I don't see anyone placing a big order any time soon. And they plan to scrap the tooling.
