CCI .22 Long Rifle Stinger Ammunition

Mini Mags work well in self loading Pistols and are the same length as a standard .22 RF case. Sti(a)ngers are not my thing either, it's the case length that can cause chamber issues in some firearms. I have owners manuals that clearly specify no Sti(a)nger type ammo to be used in that particular FA. Also accuracy isn't the best with HV .22 LR I find. CCI Standard works as a good all around .22 LR for me, accuracy is not bad and subsonic too, another bonus.

So the CCI line will now market this ammunition as "Stangers . . . as it kinda has a southern drawl to it".

They can call them what they want but they won't see the inside of any of my rimfires.

Stangers is from 22Plinkster on YouTube.

That's how he pronounces it and it has obviously caught on.

It's a good channel if you want to check him out. Keep in mind that he is heavily sponsored and does not really say anything bad about anything... Like most sponsored YouTube channels.

As for the speed, well they are too fast for accuracy at any distance. If you have a scope that is good enough and has a deep enough depth of field, you can watch them fly straight for about 50 yards or so, then they get into the transonic velocity range and start darting around every which way. After that accuracy is not so good.

As long as you are shooting inside 50 or maybe 60 yards, they can shoot ok. Its kind of a contradiction though as we want to believe faster gives us extended range, but from an accuracy perspective, the reverse is true.

I would not concern myself with warnings about damage to your rifle. That sounds a whole lot like legal BS. It might not fully chamber in a tight match chamber, that would be the only reasonable cause for concern, but if the bolt closes, I don't see the issue. It's not like any 22 LR has enough pressure to damage the barrel in less than about 20,000 rounds.

"Ditto" , they won't even chamber in a match CZ 457 MTR , wth geat difficulty
in a Lithgow 101 and they are not allowed in the same room as the Coopers.

I don't have anything that can/will shoot them ........

Won't chamber easily in my Brno #2 or my 455 trainer; match chambers are too tight for the longer brass. Chambers fine in my Cooey 78, and phenomenally accurate out of that long heavy barrel. I have yet to try them in my CIL 180 Anschutz.

Federal Automatch gives me Quarter sized groups from a sand-bag rest with both my High Standard Pistols. Not expensive either.

stingers or stangers...its all the same ..
not very accurate in any of my rifles. what works best in most of them without having to spend alot of money on the real good target stuff....CC mini mag 40gr solids...

Ill second you on that. They are incredible in a few of my pistols as well and reasonably inexpensive. Good call

I hammered a coyote at 25yards with a CCI Stinger out of my Lakefield 64b about 25 years ago.. He didn't go anywhere... Now a days I prefer the 40g Velocitors over the Stingers...

My 64b and 10/22's shoot well with stingers. I'll have to try the Velocitors I have here, I bought 5 bricks years back and haven't even tried them out yet. I have just as many segmented here I haven't shot yet as well.

Stingers aren't accurate because of the 22 rifling twist that won't stabilise them well. Maybe if you get a barrel with rifling twist for it that'd be a different story. Accuracy beats speed all day long. I wonder why that dude plinkster isn't even close to 1 milion followers lol

For what it's worth, CZ recommends against using Stinger ammo.

From CZ FAQ

Q: “Can I shoot CCI Stingers or long-for-chambering Sub-Sonic ammo in my CZ?”
A: Our 22 LR rifles are built to tight tolerances for increased accuracy, and our chamber is what other manufacturers might refer to as a ‘Match’ chamber. The tight tolerances mean overly long cartridges may not fit, so Stingers and some large sub-sonic loads will be too long to allow the bolt to close with ease.

The Stinger casing is about .702 in (17.8 mm) versus .613 in (15.6 mm) for the long rifle.

Below, the Stinger is on the right.

Accuracy in this discussion only goes so far folks.
Accurate enough and destructive enough are the bywords this handy little rimfire cartridge was specifically designed for. In my years in South Saskatchewan doing casual pest destruction for farmer friends this little cartridge was very handy. So as to not spook nearby horses cattle sheep goats etc. Or there's a chicken eating fox in the henhouse at dawn and everyone in the homestead has been harvesting all through the night and must not be disturbed.
You just have to know your tools.

I have no intention of shooting stingers in any of my 22 rimfire rifles. But I had a couple of
rounds of them floating around, so on reading this thread, I got curious.
I tried chambering one in several rifles. Here is the result:
Suhl 150 - Will not chamber
Remington 40X - Will not chamber
Remington M37 - Will not chamber
Remington 541 - Will not chamber
Mossberg 144LSB - Will chamber but quite hard to close bolt.
Mossberg 146b - Will chamber
Mossberg 42M - Will chamber
Mossberg 151M c - Will chamber
Remington 581 - Will chamber
CZ 452 American - Chambers, but hard to close bolt.
Chambers easily in a M68 Winchester and a 490 Winchester
Several sundry 22 rifles will accept them.
The snugger, match chambers do not like them, obviously. Dave.

What kinda chickens you raisin’ out there?

I've not been a fan of "Stinkers" since they hit the market for most all of the reasons already mentioned. They come apart too quick on raccoon sized critters fer my liking. Kinda fun on gophers though inside 50 yds or so from a rifle that can chamber the buggers. Stingers are a great load though for teaching new shooters on the effects of a .22 on living tissue by shooting grapefruit, melons & bananas at 25 yds or so. They soon get the picture about proper firearms handling, plus they get plenty of giggles in during sessions.
