Buy me a rifle... updated with target

Get the Annie. My son is doing biathlon this year, renting an old Annie. When I shoot it, the bolt, the trigger, still are very very good. Plus it still shoots like a laser beam with SK Standard plus, and even a bit better with the SK Rifle match. I can't imagine how well it would do with a scope on it. ( or the shooter would do )

If you're going to get both eventually then you shouldn't buy either. Jump straight to the 54-action instead. Buy once and be done for life.

If you need a .22 in the meantime while you accumulate funds for a 54 get a T1x. I shot a friends T1x over Christmas; while it was very plasticky it had a good trigger and was quite accurate with ammo it liked.

If you're dead set on one of the two listed the Steyr will likely have better wood, but I'd be buying the Annie with the two-stage trigger.

I have a 1416 18" barrel with 2 stages trigger. It's crazy accurate with SK long range ammo. Shoot 3/4'' at 100m and, around 2 1/2'' at 200m. Cant ask for more!
Hurry up if you want one! Bought mine at Nordic marksman.

I will also put my $$ on the Anschutz, proven accuracy and trigger is amazing, this would make it my first choice. Wood are usually really nice to.

Thanks all, I was leaning 1416 for pretty much the reasons mentioned, mainly that they aren't making them any more.

I wanted a Zephyr II, but bought a used BRNO Model 2 instead. I find it hard to beat old-world craftsmanship. Besides, it’ll shoot with the best of them using Eley subs. To each their own. The Steyr is a fine rifle!

I think when you're talking BRNO and Steyr and Anschutz, no one could say that they aren't ALL exceptionally great rifles.

I have a old BRNO #2 that I bought in the mid 90s... fantastic rifles.

All good observations.

I don't personally subscribe to the "buy once" idea though, to me that's the biggest lie in shooting since "save money by reloading" - well no, you still spend obscene amounts, you just shoot more per dollar :d

For me though, I guess I don't see buying guns as a strictly linear progression. Buying the highest end of something doesn't mean you can't also own & enjoy lower end models. I have all sorts of firearms, from high to low to middling quality. It's only the ones that aren't FUN that I ever get rid of. The 77/22 falls into that category for me, although I like the 77/44 and 10/22. It's the journey, not the destination for me lol. I don't see a 64 action Anschutz or a Zephyr as an alternative to a 54 action, but rather as compliments. I agree the T1x is a fantastic rimfire. I'd be hard pressed to say it beats the 452/455 series for the money though?

I'm surprised maybe that if alternative suggestions were being made that some variety of 457 didn't come up. One of those is next on the list, I just haven't really decided which one. I think the wood stocked Varmint would be a no brainer for me, but all I can seem to find is the MTR.

I had thought I read that the Steyr has a two stage ish trigger, with some take up before the sear? I prefer that or a true two stage trigger for sure, but it isn't a deal breaker for me.

Fair enough. These days I only buy guns for specific purposes, so we're certainly on different paths. I haven't handled a 452/455 in several years and have no experience with the 457 so can't comment. I was just impressed with the T1X for what it was, though the magazine is criminally ugly.

If you prefer a two-stage trigger then its a done deal - buy the Annie.
